  • Publication number: 20070091080
Abstract: A display unit for a portable electronic device includes a display panel having a plurality of display elements and configured to display information after a power supply signal to the display panel is interrupted, and a display driver circuit configured to control the presentation of information by the display panel. The display driver circuit is further configured to control a state of at least some of the display elements in response to a reset signal. The display unit further includes a reset circuit coupled to the display driver circuit and configured to generate a reset signal in response to an interruption of the power supply signal. The reset circuit includes an energy storage element configured to supply energy to the display unit while the display elements are reset.

  • Patent number: 6850776
Abstract: An electric device includes a housing having an indicator window and a visual indicator adapted to emit a visible light signal through the indicator window for indicating a status of the device. The device also has at least one of the following components, which are operative within a first spectral range of light substantially covering red or infrared light: an IR transmitter for transmitting infrared light, an IR receiver for receiving infrared light, an electronic component sensitive to infrared light, or an optical detector susceptible of infrared or red light. The visible light signal is provided within a second spectral range, which substantially covers blue light and is outside the first spectral range.

  • Patent number: 6751484
Abstract: A portable communication used in a mobile communications network has a transceiver device for providing a first wireless communication link to the mobile communications network. It also has visual indicator adapted to emit a first visible light signal, within a first predetermined spectral range, for indicating a status of the first wireless communication link. The transceiver device also provides a second wireless communication link to equipment other than the mobile communications network. The visual indicator emits a second visible signal for indicating a status of the second wireless communication link. This second visible light signal is provided in a second spectral range, which is different from the first spectral range.

  • Patent number: 6667781
Abstract: An electronic device provided with a front lit LCD (13) having a theoretical viewing area (TVA). The electronic device comprises a transparent front light guiding plate (14) extending between the LCD (13) and a front (11) of said electronic device and the front (11) has an opening (12) through which the LCD (13) can be viewed through the transparent front light guiding plate (14). A masking (20) is provided between the LCD (13) and the front light guiding plate (14), said masking (20) having an opening (21) that substantially corresponds to the theoretical viewing area (TVA) of the LCD (13), and extending outwards from said opening (21). The opening (12) in the front (11) of the electronic device is larger than the opening (21) in the masking (20).

  • Publication number: 20020054250
Abstract: A liquid-crystal display (LCD) structure for an electronic device is described. The LCD structure comprises a front transparent plate (3) and a rear transparent plate (5) with a liquid-crystal material (4) and means for applying an electric field across said liquid-crystal material (4) therebetween and a first polarizer (2) positioned in front of said liquid-crystal material (4). The LCD structure is provided with a light source for providing a back light to the LCD. The light from the light source is applied to an edge of the rear transparent plate (5) such that the rear transparent plate (5) serves as a light-guiding plate that distributes the light across the back of the LCD.
