Patent number: 7347144Abstract: An automated method is provided for carrying out a production change, which is specific to the printing plate, on a printing press. After a first print job is printed on a printing press, the printing of the first print job is stopped automatically after a predefined print run level has been reached or another termination criterion for the first print job has occurred. Parameters required for printing a second print job which follows the first print job are loaded automatically by the printing press. Before or after the parameters of the second print job are loaded, a printing plate change is automatically carried out on the printing press, thus achieving production readiness for the second print job. The second print job is then either started automatically, or a production readiness signal for the second print job is generated automatically.Type: GrantFiled: April 27, 2005Date of Patent: March 25, 2008Assignee: MAN Roland Druckmaschinen AGInventors: Thomas Eisensteger, Martin Endisch, Peter Knauer, Josef Singler

Patent number: 7004069Abstract: A non-flowing protective medium is applied in a finely distributed manner through a metering nozzle by means of blown air to the non-printing regions of at least one roll of an inking unit or damping unit and/or the non-printing regions of at least one transfer cylinder or forme cylinder, forming a thin-layer protective film. Ink is thereby prevented from drying out in non-printing regions of the rolls and cylinders of the printing unit, and the tack is thus kept at a low level, in order to reduce the risk of web breaks.Type: GrantFiled: January 28, 2004Date of Patent: February 28, 2006Assignee: MAN Roland Druckmaschinen AGInventors: Georg Schmid, Martin Endisch, Josef Singler, Konrad Brummer

Patent number: 6626104Abstract: At specific time intervals register commands are fed to a plate cylinder in a printing machine in the circumferential direction and/or the lateral direction and adjust the cylinder by a small amount. All the remaining plate cylinders can be readjusted with the aid of the register control. Alternatively, the same control commands may also be fed to all the plate cylinders involved in printing, in order to carry out a desired continuous or stepwise adjustment of the cylinders in the lateral direction and/or the circumferential direction.Type: GrantFiled: February 15, 2001Date of Patent: September 30, 2003Assignee: Man Roland Druckmaschinen AGInventors: Matthias Albus, Martin Endisch

Patent number: 6514623Abstract: A wear-resistant, ink-repellent coating, for printing-press components, and in particular, web-fed printing presses. In order to provide a seal for this low-wear coating which results in a permanent ink-repellent surface quality and which additionally has a high resistance to standard cleaning agents used in printing technology, the printing-press component which is to be protected is first provided with oxide ceramic or hard metal layer. This layer may be applied by thermal spraying. In addition, the component is treated with a polyorganosiloxane sealant, particularly polyhydridomethylsiloxane, including the necessary heat-curing at moderate temperatures of from 100° C. to 170° C. so as to prevent ink deposition. The sealing may also take place after the wear-resistant layer has undergone a grinding and polishing treatment.Type: GrantFiled: November 5, 1999Date of Patent: February 4, 2003Assignee: MAN Roland Druckmaschinen AGInventors: Martin Endisch, Markus Kirst, Gerhard Johner

Patent number: 6055907Abstract: A process for a web-fed rotary printing machine and, in particular, a process for pre-inking an inking mechanism. The inking mechanism is cleaned when all other rotating parts of the printing machine are standing still, even with an inserted printing web. Ink residues are removed from the inking mechanism by a washing device, until a defined starting state is reached. The inking mechanism is then newly inked in accordance with subject-specific instructions, i.e., in accordance with a print job to be printed. The inking is performed in parallel fashion during the start-up of the printing machine. Ink application rollers are positioned on a form cylinder when the form cylinder attains a predetermined rotational velocity.Type: GrantFiled: September 8, 1998Date of Patent: May 2, 2000Assignee: MAN Roland Druckmaschinen AGInventors: Martin Endisch, Bernhard Feller, Josef Gottling

Patent number: 5957052Abstract: A printing machine roller, especially an ink roller, and preferably an ink distributor roller, with a coating of the entire outer cylindrical surface. The coating consists of a support matrix of a good heat-conducting and low-wear metal, e.g., nickel or aluminum-silicon alloy and graphite or plastic particles, e.g., of polyester, inlaid into the metal matrix. The coating is produced by thermal spraying, preferably plasma spraying or flame spraying. The residual porosity of the coating can be varied within wide limits based on process requirements. This residual porosity also permits the ink-friendliness to be varied within wide limits via sealing with an ink-friendly plastic. The roughness of such layers can be adjusted virtually as desired to the individual requirements of the offset process.Type: GrantFiled: December 22, 1997Date of Patent: September 28, 1999Assignee: MAN Roland Druckmaschinen AGInventors: Martin Endisch, Gerhard Johner

Patent number: 5907999Abstract: The invention provides a method for arranging the inking for a pressrun in a rotary printing machine. The rotary printing machine has an inking mechanism and a dampening mechanism. The ink quantity transmitted by an ink ductor is adjusted by zone via ink zone ductor blades. When the dampening mechanism is switched off, the run-up curve of the inking mechanism is initially adjusted at an average surface coverage over the entire surface, so that a constant ink density corresponding to the average surface coverage results on the printing stock for all printing speeds. The run-up curve of the dampening mechanism is adjusted subsequently, wherein the ink zone ductor blades are in different positions which correspond to various surface coverage values of a printing subject customarily printed by the printing machine. The adjustment is effected in such a way that the ink zones with average surface coverage deliver a constant ink density to the printing stock for all printing speeds.Type: GrantFiled: May 18, 1998Date of Patent: June 1, 1999Assignee: MAN Roland Druckmaschinen AGInventors: Erwin Lusar, deceased, Martin Endisch
