  • Patent number: 4682963
Abstract: CRT mounts for color television are effectively high voltage conditioned by impressing a high voltage DC potential on the mount anode, while at the same time impressing a high frequency pulsed AC potential on the final grid electrode, and allowing the focusing electrode to float electrically, thereby inducing arcing in the upper and lower gaps adjacent the focusing electrode. Preferably, this general conditioning is followed by a second conditioning step in which the focusing electrode is connected to the AC potential, to concentrate the arcing in the upper gap.

  • Patent number: 4602187
Abstract: A color cathode ray tube having feedback features including a phosphor pattern on the mask and a window in the tube wall to allow external detection of the phosphor emissions, also incorporates arc limiting features including a high resistance coating in the neck region of the tube and a lower resistance coating underneath the arc limiting coating in the region of electrical contact between the arc limiting coating and the electron gun. The composite coating is effective to reduce erosion of the arc limiting coating in the area of snubber contact during high voltage conditioning of the tube. Such a tube is useful, for example, for high resolution color displays having an automatic convergence feature.

  • Patent number: 4234816
Abstract: Processing of arc suppression color cathode ray tubes is enhanced by providing a spark gap (42) across a limiting resistor used in the tube. The use of the spark gap allows the use of lower processing voltages and enhances electron gun clean up by burning off loose particles.

  • Patent number: 4151497
Abstract: An arc-resistant deflection yoke for a cathode ray tube deflection system includes a core of magnetic material having a pair of axes with first and second deflection windings toroid-wound in mirror image relationship on opposite sides of one axis and third and fourth deflection windings toroid-wound in a continuous-wound relationship on opposite sides of the other axis. The arc-resistant deflection yoke is fabricated by a process of selecting a core, toroid-wrapping first and second windings on opposite sides of one axis in mirror image of one another and toroid-wrapping third and fourth windings on opposite sides of an opposite axis in continuous-wound relationship.

  • Patent number: 4097784
Abstract: In a color cathode ray tube deflection apparatus having a deflection yoke with horizontal, vertical and quadrupole windings and affixed to a color cathode ray tube, a quadrupole convergence circuit includes a quadrupole winding coupled to a source of substantially parabolic-shaped horizontal and vertical frequency signals and coupled by a signal clamping circuit which is, in turn, shunted by an impedance varying in proportion and an opposite direction to variations in the impedance of the clamping circuit as determined by the value of the substantially parabolic-shaped vertical frequency signal whereby convergence at the corners of a cathode ray tube is enhanced.

  • Patent number: 4001641
Abstract: A horizontal deflection system with a transformer coupled driver including separate turn-on and turn-off drivers coupled to first and second input windings of the driver transformer is shown. The output winding of the driver transformer is loosely coupled to the first input winding to provide a sawtooth drive current to the horizontal output transistor sufficient to maintain the horizontal output transistor in saturation without wasting excessive power. The output winding is tightly coupled to the second input winding to provide a sharp turn-off pulse to the horizontal output transistor.

  • Patent number: 3999101
Abstract: A horizontal deflection system with a transformer coupled driver including separate trace and retrace drivers coupled to an input winding or windings of the driver transformer is shown. A feedback or pulse forming means is connected from the transformer to the input of the retrace driver for providing a pulse to the retrace driver in response to termination of the trace drive signal by the trace driver.

  • Patent number: 3973545
Abstract: A contactless ignition system includes a free running oscillator which generates an output timing pulse to a pulse generator and an ignition coil whenever the oscillations of a saturable core transformer and a series resonant circuit which is driven by the feedback voltage induced in the transformer secondary winding cease. In the free running state, the feedback voltage sustains the oscillator operation at a frequency fixed by the resonant circuit. A disk, having a plurality of permanent magnets evenly spaced around its periphery, is affixed to the distributor shaft and disposed within the vicinity of the saturable core of the transformer. As the disk rotates, the magnetic field of each magnet, as it passes the vicinity of the core, momentarily saturates the transformer core. Saturation of the core reduces the feedback voltage below the oscillation sustaining level and, consequently, causes the oscillator to generate an output pulse which is synchronous with the engine speed.
