  • Patent number: 9754701
Abstract: Provided is an article containing non-cellulosic nonwoven fabric layer between two non-cellulosic nonwoven paper layers wherein one or both of the nonwoven paper and nonwoven fabric are electrically insulating. At least some embodiments are flame retardant.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: March 11, 2013
Date of Patent: September 5, 2017
    Assignee: 3M Innovative Properties Company
Inventors: Robert H. Turpin, David S. Stankes, Martin H. Fox, Mitchell T. Huang
  • Publication number: 20160343465
Abstract: An article comprises an inorganic filler, fully hydrolyzed polyvinyl alcohol fibers, a polymer binder, and high surface area fibers. The article can be formed as an electrically insulating paper for electrical equipment, such as a liquid filled transformer, which can thereby be substantially cellulose free.

  • Patent number: 5368929
Abstract: A high temperature insulation for liquid-filled transformers. This invention is a composite sheet material composed of a substrate saturated with a thermally stable polymeric resin that provides a micro-porous structure. This structure allows dielectric fluid to saturate the electrical insulation material. The insulation materials have a low moisture absorption, and do not generate water when aged during the life of the transformer. The invention improves transformer life expectancy with a cost effective alternate electrical sheet insulation material. This material has better heat aged electrical properties than cellulose, which is presently the most common insulator for liquid filled transformers.
