  • Patent number: 9474026
Abstract: A system is disclosed in which a communications device communicates via a cell operated by a base station of a communications network. The communications device identifies that transmission of data to a communications node coupled to the communications network has been triggered; determines whether an indication of radio quality in the cell meets a required radio quality criteria responsive to the transmission being triggered. The transmitting element transmits the data to the communications network after a delay if the quality of radio signals does not meet the required radio quality criteria, and without the delay if the quality of radio signals meets the required radio quality criteria.

  • Publication number: 20160227601
Abstract: There is provided a mobile radio communications device arranged to operate a DRX power saving procedure, the DRX procedure being defined by a schedule of planned DRX activity, and arranged to receive the signalling from a network device sent according to the schedule of planned DRX activity, and also to a mobile radio communications network device arranged for signalling to a mobile radio communications device operating a DRX power saving procedure, and arranged so as to control the said signalling according to a schedule of planned DRX activity within the mobile radio communications device, the devices forming part of a wireless communication system employing a DRX procedure.

  • Patent number: 7146182
Abstract: The present invention provides for a cellular radio communications device arranged for use with first and second communication systems having different timebases, and including means for determining the offset between the timebase at a serving cell of the first system and the timebase of a neighboring cell of the second system, the said means for determining including timing means being arranged to be controlled by frame-boundary signals of the first and second communication systems.

  • Patent number: 6870428
Abstract: A mobile radio communications device has a first crystal oscillator for providing a first master clock frequency for the timebase of a first communications system, a second crystal oscillator for providing a second master clock frequency for the timebase of a second communications system, and a phase locked loop connected between the first and second crystal oscillators and arranged to lock the first and second crystal oscillators together so that the two timebases cannot drift.

  • Publication number: 20020193943
Abstract: An apparatus for displaying an electronic map comprises a positioning system, means to access map databases, an electronic compass, a processor and a display screen. The processor receives data from the positioning unit, the electronic compass and a map database and causes an electronic map to be displayed on the display screen such that north on the map is always aligned with true (geographic or magnetic) north.
