  • Patent number: 6248105
Abstract: The invention relates to a device for connecting a longitudinal rod with a bone anchoring element, such as a pedicle screw, thereby forming a system for fixation of the spine. The device includes a connecting member having upper and lower ends, a bore hole which is open at least towards the lower end and has a central axis, and a through hole positioned perpendicular to the central axis. The device also has a tensioning member insertable in the upper end of the connecting member for securing the bone anchoring element to the connector at a surgeon selected angle. A radially compressible spring chuck is arranged within the connecting member and has a cavity for receiving the head of the bone anchoring element. An insert slides into the bore hole of the connecting member and has a recess with a shape complementary to the outer surface of the spring chuck. The spring chuck is axially supported in the bore hole in such a fashion that radial movement of the spring chuck is not affected.

  • Patent number: 6059829
Abstract: The present invention related to an implant (1) for an intervertebral space consists of a frame (2) which is closed at the sides but open without restriction at the top and bottom and provided with an anterior lead-in face (3) and a posterior manipulation face (4). The upper (5) and lower boundary (6) of the frame (2) is convex, so that the implant (1) has an overall lens shape in the midplane (8) of the frame (2) containing the longitudinal axis (7) of the implant (1). The inner cavity (15) which is open without restriction at the top and bottom can be filled with a compressible material. The posterior manipulation face (4) of the frame (2) is provided with an aperture (9) to allow the introduction of a compression element (10) with which the compressible material can be forced out of the inner cavity (15).

  • Patent number: 5616143
Abstract: Surgical forceps have connecting members onto which working ends are attached in offset fashion, so that they can work together outside the plane of the forceps. One of the working ends is tubular and the other has an angled, U-shaped cross section which receives a portion of the tubular working end. With the tubular working end slipped over a pedicle screw attached to a vertebrae and the other end attached to a support rod, the vertebra can be brought to the support simply and expeditiously.

  • Patent number: 5581033
Abstract: The instant invention relates to a protection box to be installed on a measuring instrument assembly in a process plant. The box includes two identical box halves in contact with each other, about contact rims. Opposing recesses are provided at the interfaces of the contact rims to form passage openings when the halves are closed. According to the invention the passage openings are of sufficient sized so that the usual elements of the measuring instrument assembly extending through the protection box walls fit with excess space. The passage openings are tightly sealed by an inserted molded plug made of an elastic foam material. Passages for the parts of the measuring instrument assembly entering or exiting the protection box can be installed at the installation site in such manner that said parts are tightly enclosed under tension by the elastic synthetic material of the molded plug. Universal application of the protection box and proper functioning as well as easy handling are achieved.

  • Patent number: 5501684
Abstract: An osteosynthetic fixation device consists of a fixation element 1 which has a conical head section 11 and an anchoring element 12 abutting it which is for attachment into the bone. The fixation device also consists of a spherically formed, layered, slotted clamping piece 2 which has a conical borehole 21 for installation of the conical head section 11, and which is meant for locking within a connecting piece 3 equipped with a spherically shaped layered borehole 31. Fixation piece 1 has an axially arrayed tension element 4, permitting axial displacement and wedging of conical head section 11 in the borehole 21 that corresponds with it. The fixation device is appropriate for use as a plate/screw system, an internal or external fixator, and in particular for spinal column fixation.

  • Patent number: 5312402
Abstract: The connection device (20) for adjustable connection of a first with a second structural element (12, 13), particularly tubes or rods, for a setting device has an external component (21) with a cylindrical hole and two internal components (22) inserted into the hole so that they can be slid axially and rotatably, each of which said internal components (22) has through openings (24, 25) crossways to the axial direction of the components to hold a structural element (12, 13). By means of loading means (23, 29), designed as a nut/screw connection, the internal component (2) is pushed axially to the external component (21) and thereby grips the inserted structural elements (12, 13).
