    Abstract: Provided are methods of diagnosing sepsis in a patient by detecting the presence and/or amount of at least two biomarkers of sepsis or severe sepsis/septic shock in a sample from the patient. The methods and biomarkers may be used to develop an accurate prognosis for a patient having sepsis or severe sepsis/septic shock or suspected of having sepsis or severe sepsis/septic shock, or to accurately diagnose a patient having, or suspected of having sepsis or severe sepsis/septic shock. The methods and biomarkers may be used to identify and/or classify a patient as a candidate for a sepsis therapy.
