Publication number: 20140273761Abstract: A honing apparatus includes a sharpening stone that has a sharpening surface configured to sharpen the edge of the blade upon engaging contact with the edge of the blade. A frame is operatively coupled to the sharpening stone, and a weight element is supported by the frame and positioned so as to urge the sharpening stone toward the edge of the blade. The frame may be pivotally coupled to a fixed element at a pivoting location, and the weight element may be positioned so as to create a moment about the pivoting location, with the moment urging the sharpening stone toward the edge of the blade.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 8, 2013Publication date: September 18, 2014Applicant: SCA Hygiene Products ABInventors: Arno Robert ARNDT, Lon Martin King

Publication number: 20120215090Abstract: A method and apparatus for reconstruction of a region of interest for an object is provided. The reconstruction of the object may be based on chords which may fill a part, all, or more than all of the region of interest. Using chords for reconstruction may allow for reducing data acquired and/or processing for reconstructing a substantially exact image of the ROI. Moreover, various methodologies may be used in reconstructing the image, such as backprojection-filtration, and modified filtration backprojection.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 20, 2012Publication date: August 23, 2012Inventors: Xiaochuan Pan, Yu Zou, Lifeng Yu, Chien-Min Kao, Martin King, Maryellen Giger, Dan Xia, Howard Halpern, Charles Pelizzari, Emil Y. Patent number: 8239185Abstract: The present invention is a method and apparatus for facilitating an interview where the interviewer and interviewee speak different languages. An important application is to first responder situations during an emergency. The invention implements several improvements over the prior art. A method is provided whereby the interviewee who cannot read can nevertheless specify her language to the interviewer and system. Choices of topics about which the interviewer might want to communicate with the interviewee are ranked by associated probabilities or risks, thereby assisting the interviewer in selecting next steps in the interview and treatment process; the interviewer, nevertheless, retains the discretion to choose other options. Information communicated to the interviewee in detail can be presented to the interviewer in summary form, so that the interviewer can concentrate on higher priority matters.Type: GrantFiled: January 17, 2008Date of Patent: August 7, 2012Assignee: GeaCom, Inc.Inventor: Mat Martin King Johnson

Publication number: 20110232560Abstract: A visual indicator used to indicate a disposition of an end of a tape comprises a colored layer, and one or more layers of elongate polymer elements, or one or more polarizing layers, or one or more dichroic filter layers. When the tape is stretched as a piece is torn or cut away, an orientation of the polymer elements, or a polarization configuration, or a thickness of the dichroic layers is changed, changing a color, opacity, or reflectance visually evident at the end of the tape. In other embodiments, the visual indicator comprises one or more visible lines that run diagonally across the width of the tape, either in successive sections or along the entire length, so that a discontinuity between the line at the end and at an adjacent point on the remainder of the tape indicates the disposition of the end and an approximate amount of tape remaining.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 18, 2011Publication date: September 29, 2011Inventors: Martin King, Sharon Quinn, Cheryl Grunbock

Publication number: 20110065169Abstract: A vessel for housing an organ such as lungs from a mammal ex-vivo, for evaluation or preservation. A liquid solution suitable for evaluation or preservation of the lungs surrounds the organ, at least partly. The solution is circulated via an outlet and an inlet. Two pressure chambers are arranged between the walls of the vessel and the organ. A gas is introducible to the pressure chamber in order to expand the pressure chamber for occupying the spaces surrounding the organ. Then, the pressure inside the pressure chambers is increased in order to push the solution to a higher level so that the organ is immersed in the solution without necessitating addition of further solution. Alternatively, the vessel is exposed to an under pressure and the pressure chambers are open to the atmosphere. In a further alternative embodiment, a solution collection space has variable volume.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 6, 2009Publication date: March 17, 2011Applicant: VIVOLINE MEDICAL ABInventors: Stig Steen, Audrius Paskevicius, Benjamin Martin King
