Abstract: Systems and methods for bearer splitting among multiple radio links are disclosed herein. User equipment (UE) may be communicatively coupled to an Evolved Universal Terrestrial Radio Access Network (E-UTRAN) Node B (eNB) by multiple radio links (e.g., an LTE link and a WLAN link). A transmitter may dynamically determine a splitting policy for how to split traffic among each link (e.g., what proportion to send over each link). In some embodiments, the transmitter may determine the splitting policy explicitly based on lower layer metrics. Alternatively, or in addition, each radio access interface may request data when a transmission opportunity becomes available, and the splitting policy may be determined implicitly from the data requests. For a UE, the splitting policy may be determined with network assistance, which may include a resource allocation for an LTE link, a probability of successful transmission over a WLAN link, and/or the like.

  • Publication number: 20130225215
Abstract: Representative implementations of devices and techniques provide enhanced power management in a communication device. In one implementation, an efficient processor, such as a baseband processor, is at least partially responsible for determining if a Wi-Fi transceiver is to be enabled. In one example of the implementation, the efficient processor leverages location based information, during regular paging intervals, in determining if a Wi-Fi transceiver is to be enabled. Such location based information may include the use of radio-location signal measurements from base stations/cell towers, using GPS/A-GPS, GLONAS, or using proximity to access points by way of NFC or Bluetooth transceivers.

  • Publication number: 20130223404
Abstract: Representative implementations of devices and techniques provide care-of-address handover. In one implementation, a message is sent to a server in a point-to-point communication session. The message includes a care-of-address of a first network interface (e.g., wireless network interface) and a care-of-address of a second network interface (e.g., wireline network interface). The care-of-address of the first network interface is a current care-of-address being used in the communication session and the care-of-address of the second network interface is a new care-of-address that a device (e.g., a mobile node) is going to transition to (e.g., handover). The message may also include the server's IP address and TCP (Transfer Control Protocol) port. Furthermore, the message may include the mobile node's TCP port.
