  • Patent number: 5085463
Abstract: The gas bag apparatus for protection against impact is adapted to be integrated in the steering wheel or instrument board of motor vehicles end consists of the collapsed gas bag, the bowl-shaped generator carrier, which is connected to the gas bag and accommodates the solid-fuel-operated gas generator, and the covering, which is made of elastic plastic and covers the gas bag and is clipped to the generator carrier. In order to reduce the weight the generator carrier consists of thermoplastic which is reinforced with glass mats.

  • Patent number: 5013065
Abstract: The gas bag apparatus for protection against an impact is adapted to be integrated into the steering wheel or instrument board of motor vehicles and comprises a covering, which is made of elastic plastic and connected to the carrier for a gas generator. The cover of the covering has exactly defined rated break lines and the covering comprises a peripheral annular frame, which is secured to the carrier and is connected by hingelike joints to the cover sections which are defined by the rated break lines. In order to eliminate the need for a reinforcement, the covering consists of a one-piece injection molding which is made of a thermoplastic elastomer.

  • Patent number: 4836576
Abstract: A safety steering wheel having an impact protector mounted on the hub of the steering wheel and which consists of a collapsed gas bag and a housing which contains a propellant for inflating the gas bag. The impact protector is covered by a cover hood, which is made of soft elastic plastic and reinforced by a reinforcing layer. In order to prevent a bulging of the cover hood by the forces which are exerted by the collapsed gas bag, a frame is provided, which is secured to the carrier for the housing which contains the propellant. The frame surrounds the housing and the gas bag and comprises at least one retaining member, which is integrally joined to the frame and attached to that edge of the frame which faces the driver's compartment. The retaining member when in a rest position extends in front of the collapsed gas bag and in the case of an impact is adapted to be bent up toward the driver's compartment along a straight line.

  • Patent number: 4127741
Abstract: For fixing metal sheaths on glass fiber reinforced plastic rods, which rods are used, for example, in composite insulators: the sheath is in a number of sections in a longitudinal array; there is an abutment inside the sheath at each sheath section, there is a shoulder piece on the outside of the rod inside each sheath section; the abutment in a sheath section is at one longitudinal side of the respective shoulder piece in that sheath section; elastic and compliant buffer means, such as springs, or the like, are placed between the abutment and its shoulder piece; the compliance of the buffer means increases toward one end of the arrangement to compensate for the different rates of expansion of the sheath and the rod; other embodiments all have appropriate buffer means in each sheath section, which buffer means increase in compliance moving toward the end of the sheath through which the rod exits.
