Abstract: The invention relates to an applicator for the coating of a paper or the like web, having a belt which is guided around a support member and a drive roller and forming a nip with the web on a web guiding backing roll. A coating nip is formed between the backing roll and the belt for the application of the coating composition to the web. The support member for the belt at the nip is a roller of relatively small diameter, as compared with the guide roller. At least one further roller or a pair of such rollers support the small diameter roller.

Abstract: An arrangement for dosing with a blade, in coating machines or similar, onto a running web of paper or cardboard carried by a roll in or with the arrangement. The blade is forced by means of a hold-down or several hold-down sections on the roll respectively the web. A transmitter transmits light, notably laser light. The blade features in the area between the contact line of the hold-down on it, and its contact line on the roll respectively the web, on its side away from the roll, at least one light-reflecting layer for reflection of the light ray directed by the transmitter at the layer. A receiver registers the position or angle of the ray reflected upon it by the light-reflecting layer of the blade. A controller is provided for controlling, dependent on the position signal of the receiver for the reflected light ray, the angular position of the blade, notably in its area between the contact line of the hold-down or the hold-down section and the roll.

Abstract: The invention relates to a coating device for coating moving webs of material, more particularly webs of paper or board, comprising a belt or hose (7), which is trained about the curved guide surface of a beam- or rod-like support member (1) and a drive roll (6), a cooperating roll (C) carrying the web, a coating gap (9) being defined between the cooperating roll (C) and the hose (7) for the application of the coating material to the web or the roll, a support beam (3), which extends in parallelism to the roll and the drive roll (6), for supporting the support member (1), and between the same a pressure hose (4) for the transmission of the support forces.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a device for coating traveling webs of paper or board having two web guide rolls closely adjacent each other. Each roll has an applicator associated on its periphery. The applicators cooperate with each other at least in part for the coating of the web directly one after the other, preferably within at most 0.15 seconds. The rolls are arranged one above the other--possibly somewhat laterally shifted from each other. The lower roll has an applicator chamber of a nozzle applicator in the region of its periphery remote from the upper roll. The upper roll has at least one of the following on its web-entrance side--with respect to the lower roll--a sump chamber for coating composition formed of a doctor element and its mount and on its other side, an applicator chamber of a nozzle applicator. The lower roll may be adapted to be swung or lowered away from the upper roll and/or the upper roll may be liftable away from the lower roll.

Abstract: In a process for the coating of a running web of paper or cardboard, provisions are that in a press gap formed between two rolls a coating substance applied in a very small quantity on the surface of the one roll is first pressed on the web leaving a very thin coat on the web which, however, covers all spots including the "mounds" of microroughness. Next, the second coat can be applied and dosed on the still moist first coat with the usual means. In the process, the first coat is preferably dosed on the shell of the first roll, by means of the peripheral grooves of a rotary doctor. The same may be performed also as regards the second coating on the web.

Abstract: On a coating device, at the mouth originating from the chamber for the coating substance, there is provided, between said mouth and the backing roll or web, a cover body which on its surface near the mouth forms an outlet channel that extends away from the space through which at the doctor blade flows the coating substance. This outlet channel has a throttle effect. Additionally, the cover body forms relative to the doctor blade a second throttle channel which is located relatively close to the smoothing edge of the doctor blade. At the outlet of the second throttle channel, the cover body preferably extends into a point which is arranged relatively close to the backing roll or web. The outlet channel can suitably be formed between a base body and the cover body, with the base body ending at a distance from the doctor blade that is maximally 10 mm greater than the clearance of the second throttle channel.

Abstract: At the outflow-side end of a pre-dosing device, which comprises an applicator chamber formed at the product web in the region where the latter is guided by a counter-cylinder, a rolling doctor rod, wire wrapped or provided with circumferential grooves, is provided as a pre-dosing element, whereby high excess amounts of coating compound can be applied on the product web.
