    Abstract: A movable glove compartment for a motor vehicle has a locking device fitted to the rear portion, and a locking device adapted for use in the rear portion of a glove compartment. Use of the locking device in the rear portion eliminates safety hazards associated with protrusions of locking device components from the exposed portions of the glove compartment, improves esthetics, and allows the entire exposed face of the glove compartment to be cushioned.
