  • Patent number: 10253396
Abstract: A modified alloy is disclosed including a base alloy composition and an additive gamma prime antioxidant. The base alloy composition includes a concentration of a gamma prime antioxidant less than an effective concentration of the gamma prime antioxidant. The additive gamma prime antioxidant is intermixed with the base alloy composition to form the modified alloy, preferentially segregating to a gamma prime phase of the modified alloy and increasing the concentration of the gamma prime antioxidant to be at least the effective concentration of the gamma prime antioxidant. The effective concentration imparts reduced oxidation susceptibility of the gamma prime phase. An article is disclosed including the modified alloy. A coated article is disclosed including a coating disposed on a surface of an article having the base alloy composition. The coated article includes a reduced stress accelerated gamma prime oxidation static crack growth susceptibility in comparison with the base alloy composition.

  • Patent number: 6240765
Abstract: A forging press includes a die set having a stationary die, a movable die in facing-but-spaced-apart relation to the stationary die along a press axis and defining a workpiece volume therebetween, and an exterior constraint extending circumferentially around the workpiece volume. The movable die has a base level region lying generally in a workpiece plane perpendicular to the press axis, and three rotationally symmetric segments raised above the base level region. Each of the segments forms an angular segment of a disk having an included segment angle and that is angularly separated from the other segments. A press mechanism includes a axial drive operable to move the movable die in a direction parallel to the press axis, and an indexing drive operable to rotate the movable die about the press axis by an indexing rotational angle.

  • Patent number: 6193823
Abstract: An article is formed from an ingot of a nickel-iron base alloy having a composition including from about 4.5 weight percent niobium to about 5.5 weight percent niobium and capable of forming delta-phase precipitates, and having fewer than about 1 grain per square inch at 100× magnification. An array of intragranular delta-phase precipitates is precipitated within the ingot to provide grain nucleation sites. The ingot having the array of delta-phase precipitates therein is deformed at a temperature below a delta-phase solvus temperature, thereby producing a fine-grained billet.
