  • Publication number: 20060034689
Abstract: A gas turbine engine turbine comprises an annular array of nozzle guide vanes and an annular array of turbine blades mounted within its annular casing. An array of radially extending protrusions are positioned axially upstream of said array of said nozzle guide vanes and protruding inwardly from the inner casing wall so as to mix the tangential momentum component of the overtip leakage fluid flow before it reaches the array of nozzle guide vanes.

  • Publication number: 20050244265
Abstract: Rotary apparatus (17) for a gas turbine engine (10) comprises a rotor assembly (63) and first and second stator assemblies (55, 59) mounted coaxially with respect to each other. The first stator assembly (55) is upstream of the second stator assembly (59), and the second stator assembly (59) is upstream of the rotor assembly (63). The rotor assembly (63) comprises an annular array (64) of rotor blades (66), and each stator assembly (55, 59) comprises an annular array (56, 60) of stator vanes (58, 62). Each vane (58, 62) has a leading edge and a trailing edge. The stator assemblies (55, 59) are circumferentially translatable relative to each other between a first condition in which each of the vanes (62) of the second stator assembly (59) is substantially aerodynamically aligned with a respective one of the vanes (58) of the first stator assembly (55), and a second condition in which the vanes (58, 62) of the first and second stator assemblies (55, 59) are out of aerodynamic alignment with each other.

  • Publication number: 20050226720
Abstract: A three shaft ducted fan gas turbine engine (10) has a turbine system comprising a high pressure turbine rotor (32), an intermediate pressure turbine rotor (36) and first and second low pressure turbine rotors (42,44), that straddle intermediate pressure turbine rotor (36). Rotors (42,44) are mechanically connected by a casing (46) that bridges turbine rotor (36) so as to achieve transmission of torque from the first to the second thereof. Rotor (42) also delivers gas flow to the intermediate pressure rotor (36) at a much lower temperature than is experienced by conventional arrangements.

  • Publication number: 20050129781
Abstract: This invention relates to novel colonic purgative compositions in a solid dosage form, comprising at least one purgative and at least one soluble, or soluble, nonfermentable binder, such as polyethylene glycol. Further, this invention relates to methods of using the colonic purgative compositions. The present compositions and methods are designed to improve patient tolerance and compliance, while at the same time improving the quality of bowel cleansing. The formulations and methods of this invention are particularly useful to cleanse the bowel prior to diagnostic and surgical procedures and can also be employed in lower dosages as a laxative to promote elimination and/or to relieve constipation.

  • Publication number: 20040089376
Abstract: An edge-routing unit has a routing tool (4) on a shaft (9) of a routing motor (6), which is arranged on a rest (10), and which is controlled approximately along a workpiece outline in a workpiece feed-through direction, an X-axis, and in a workpiece thickness direction, a Z-axis. Furthermore, by way of a feeler wheel (5), which is coaxial to the routing tool (4) and which travels over a workpiece surface adjoining an edge strip (3), the rest (10) is supported on the workpiece (1) for follow-up of the routing tool (4) according to a contour sensed. In order to be able to change adjustment of the routing tool (4) relative to the feeler wheel (5) during machining operations, a positioning slide (15) is arranged on the rest (10), on which the positioning slide (15) and the routing motor (6) sit together with the routing tool (4) and which is traversable in a motor-operated program-controlled manner relative to the rest (10), in a direction of the X-axis and in a direction of the Z-axis.

  • Patent number: 6385781
Abstract: A high energy shock absorbing and dissipating device designed to be mounted on existing shoulder pads for football, hockey, dirt bike riders, etc. The head of the wearer is in a spaced relation to the inside surfaces. It consists of a crown structure and a lower support structure with vertical shock absorbing springs in between. An energy dissipating foam annular band is in a plane at the forehead level to attenuate the forces from whiplash-type movements. The possibility of the wearer receiving a concussion is virtually eliminated and will have the maximum of protection against devastating spinal cord injuries.

  • Patent number: 6333812
Abstract: An orbital scanning borescope includes a tube insertable into an inaccessible location in use and an optical system for gathering an image of a feature and transmitting the image to a viewing device located in a housing at the proximal end of the tube. The tube is rotatable about its longitudinal axis relative to the housing. The viewing device includes an ocular lens and a reticle both of which are rotatable relative to the tube. Therefore, the tube can be rotated until a desired feature can be viewed through the borescope. The reticle can then be rotated independently of the tube until it is aligned as appropriate with the feature of interest.

  • Patent number: 4853058
Abstract: An apparatus for adhering a tape to a nonstraight edge of a generally planar workpiece has a stationary workpiece station, clamps retaining the workpiece stationarily in the station, a carriage displaceable adjacent the station parallel to the plane of the workpiece in generally perpendicular longitudinal and transverse directions, and a roller engageable with the workpiece and rotatable on the carriage about an axis generally perpendicular to the workpiece plane. The carriage is displaced in the directions relative to the stationary workpiece to roll the roller around the workpiece edge. A guide feeds a tape from a supply of the tape and an adhesive on the carriage to the roller. The tape is pressed by the roller against the workpiece edge as the roller rolls around the workpiece edge so that the tape is adhered to the workpiece edge.

  • Patent number: 4802936
Abstract: A tape is adhered to a corner-defining nonstraight edge of a generally planar workpiece with an apparatus comprising a stationary workpiece station, clamps for retaining the workpiece in the station, a roller engageable with the workpiece and rotatable on the carriage about an axis generally perpendicular to the workpiece plane, and a supply of the tape and an adhesive on the carriage. The roller and workpiece are relatively displaced to roll the roller around the workpiece edge and over the corner thereof while pressing the tape with the roller against the workpiece edge and corner. The tape feed is automatically monitored to determine which portion of the tape will be pressed over the edge corner and a notch is cut in the tape at the portion to be pressed to the corner. Then this notched portion of the tape is pressed over the corner without overlapping the tape.
