    Abstract: An esophageal or gullet probe includes electrode points (13, 14) which can be stuck into the smooth muscles of the esophagus so that, by application of a stimulating current, contractions of the smooth muscles of the esophagus wall can be caused which in a hemorrhage of the esophageal veins enable a clamping of the veins extending through the wall of the esophagus.
