  • Patent number: 9264770
Abstract: Systems and methods for generating a representation of a video media asset for inclusion in a media asset listing for the video media asset is considered. User emotional responses that occur while the video media asset is presented to the user are monitored using a processor. A user emotional response selection criterion is retrieved from a storage device, and based on the retrieved user emotional response selection criterion, one of the monitored user emotional responses is selected. An identification is made of the portion of the video media asset presented to the user when the selected one of the user emotional response occurred, and a representation of the identified portion is generated for the video media asset for inclusion in a media asset listing for the video media asset.

  • Publication number: 20150036757
Abstract: Systems and methods for adaptively applying a deblocking filter using a maximum bitrate and/or resolution thresholds are disclosed. In one embodiment, post-processing encoded video data utilizing an adaptive deblocking filter include determining threshold values for maximum bitrate and resolution of encoded video based upon a minimum acceptable video quality for a playback device, selecting a video stream comprising encoded video data with an associated maximum bitrate and resolution, where the video stream is selected based upon an available bandwidth between the playback device and a content distribution server, obtaining encoded video data for a portion of the video stream, decoding the video data for the portion of the video stream, adaptively applying the deblocking filter to the decoded video data for the portion of the video stream, where the deblocking filter is applied utilizing at least one of the determined maximum bitrate and resolution thresholds.

  • Publication number: 20140250447
Abstract: System and methods are presented for providing a user with a private viewing experience. In some embodiments, a private viewing system detects that the user is present at a media device that is displaying media content to the user, and then detects that a second user is outside of the viewing area of the media device. The private viewing system then determines a likelihood value related to the likelihood that the second user will enter the viewing area of the media device during a time period in the future. A first indication is then generated, based on the determined likelihood value, and presented to the user at the media device indicating that the second user is likely to enter the viewing area of the media device during the time period in the future.

  • Patent number: 8731282
Abstract: Systems and methods for region of interest background smoothing & compression enhancement in accordance with embodiments of the invention are disclosed. In one embodiment, preprocessing video with a smoothing filter includes identifying a region of interest in a frame of video, determining an importance value for the region of interest, when the importance value satisfies a criterion, applying an intra frame smoothing filter to pixels within the region of interest, which includes dividing the specified region of interest into pairs of pixel groupings, where the pixel groupings in each pair are the same size and are adjacent to each other, calculating the difference between the average luminance of the pixels within each pixel grouping, when the calculated difference is less than a predetermined amount: calculating the average luminance for all pixels in the pixel groupings, and assigning the calculated average luminance to all pixels within the pixel groupings.

  • Publication number: 20130170559
Abstract: Systems and methods for encoding regions of interest within video frames to reduce errors within the regions of interest in accordance with embodiments of the invention are described. One embodiment includes a processor configured by an encoder application, where the encoder application configures the processor to: identify at least one region of interest within a frame of video; assign at least one importance value to a plurality of regions within the frame, where a higher importance value is assigned to identified regions of interest; and apply a first error propagation reduction process to at least one region assigned a first importance value and a second error propagation reduction process to at least one region assigned a second importance value.
