    Abstract: A method of data transmission, and more particularly a secure method of data transmission. The method comprises generating and sending a classical data stream and quantum data stream from a source to a destination. The step of generating and sending a classical data stream from the source to the destination comprises encrypting the data stream with the repeated use of a once-seen pad. Observing the quantum data stream received at the destination, may indicate eavesdropping and if so, the classical data stream is modified and sent from the source to the destination, including stopping the repeated use of the once-seen pad. The same once-seen pad may be used a number of times provided no third party has seen data encrypted by the once-seen pad.

At least one interface (40) is connected to the private network (20) and configured to encrypt, with a first encryption key, data that is leaving the private network (20). A compliance check apparatus (70) includes at least one interface (60) that is connected to the compliance check apparatus (70) and that is configured to decrypt data encrypted with the first encryption key that is entering the compliance check apparatus (70). The compliance check apparatus (70) is configured to check that the decrypted data complies with a first condition. At least one further interface (80) is connected to the compliance check apparatus (70) and is configured to encrypt with a second encryption key checked, decrypted data that is leaving the compliance check apparatus (70). In example embodiments of the invention, a corresponding work-flow is provided for data entering the private network (20).

    Abstract: A method and apparatus for predicting load unbalance in an appliance is provided for an appliance having a vessel configured to receive a supply of material and rotatable about an axis. A control is arranged and configured to rapidly accelerate a rotation of the vessel, determine an amount of energy with which the vessel has engaged the relatively stationary part, compare the amount of energy with a predetermined value and send a signal indicative of an unbalance condition if the amount of energy exceeds the predetermined value. The vessel may be rotated by use of an electric motor such as a controlled induction motor and the control can be used to measure the electric current drawn by the motor and through manipulation of the current, determine the amount of energy with which the vessel engages the stationary part of the appliance.

A control is arranged and configured to accelerate a rotation of the vessel between a series of constant rotational speeds, measure an amount of current with which the motor draws in rotating the vessel at each of the rotational speeds and during each acceleration period, compare the amount of current with a calculated threshold value for each speed and each acceleration period and send a signal indicative of an unbalance condition if the amount of energy exceeds the precalculated threshold value. The vessel may be rotated by use of an electric motor such as a controlled induction motor and the control can be used to measure the electric current drawn by the motor. The threshold values can further be adjusted by comparing the actual line voltage supplied to the motor with a predetermined nominal line voltage.

    Abstract: In a secure communications system where messages between subscribers are encrypted according to a selection of encryption procedures, a gateway trunk is provided. The gateway trunk comprises a telecommunications trunk (35) with one or more cryptographic devices (A,B,C) inserted in each traffic channel and a separate signaling channel (37), and a traffic channel is selected according to a code dialed by a subscriber. The gateway trunk may be associated with a PABX (31) such that messages are routed through a channel of the trunk corresponding to the cryptographic device required. Pairs of different cryptographic devices may be inserted in each channel of the trunk to effect conversion from one encryption procedure to another.

    Abstract: An automatic washer having an enclosure surrounding an imperforate tub including an access opening and a perforate wash basket rotatably disposed within the tub about a horizontal axis wherein the tub access opening is provided with a flexible tub door for selectively closing the tub access opening. The flexible tub door is slidably supported by the tub for selectively closing the access opening wherein the tub door is positionable in a closed position and an open position. A spring is interconnected with the tub door for biasing the tub door toward an open position. A door catch is provided for engaging the tub door in a fully closed position against the biasing force of the spring and means are provided for selectively actuating the door catch such that the tub door may be selectively engaged in the closed position or released for movement to a fully open position. During the tub door closing operation, the rotatable wash basket is coupled to the tub door.

    Abstract: A conferencing module, for conferencing two PCM words uses threshold detectors (7, 8) to assess whether the word represent signals above a preset threshold, plus a comparator (1) to determine the larger signal. One or other is switched by an electronic switch (5) to the output by control logic (4) as follows:(i) if only one PCM word is above the threshold it is switched to the output and the switch setting stored in a memory (6),(ii) if both PCM words are above the threshold, and one is larger than the other, that one is switched to the output and the switch setting noted in the memory,(iii) if neither PCM word is above the threshold, the switch is left as it is, and that fact noted in the memory,(iv) if both PCM words exceed the threshold, and are of equal size, the switch is left as it is, and that fail noted in the memory.
