  • Patent number: 10807226
Abstract: A range of power tools each includes motor and transmission housings with an electric motor and a transmission mechanism mounted respectively therein, with the transmission mechanism using the rotary output of the motor to drive a cutting tool. An intermediate housing is sandwiched between the motor and transmission housings. Each of the motor housings is the same in shape, and the length of the electric motors in each of the power tool is different to the length of the electric motors in the other power tools in the range. The transmission housing is positioned differently relative to the motor housing in each power tool to accommodate the difference in length in the electric motor in that power tool, the shape of the intermediate housing in each power tool varying relative to the other intermediate housings to accommodate the difference positions of the transmission housings relative to the motor housings.

  • Patent number: 8430182
Abstract: A hammer drill has a transmission housing 280 is formed from two clamshell halves of durable plastics or cast metal material. The transmission housing 280 is mounted on first and second damping springs 284 and 286 at its rearward end. The transmission housing 280 is also mounted on parallel rails (not shown) disposed within the tool housing 222 such that the transmission housing 280 can slide a small distance relative to the tool housing 222. The forward end of the transmission housing 280 has a generally part conical portion 290, which abuts a corresponding part conical portion 292 formed on the tool housing 222. The interface defined by conical portions 290 and 292 defines a stop against which the transmission housing 280 rests against the tool housing 222 in the inoperative condition of the hammer drill 220.

  • Patent number: 8272134
Abstract: A power cutter comprising an engine mounted within a housing, a support arm mounted on and projecting forward of the housing and a blade mounting mechanism rotatably mounted on the end of the support arm which is capable of being rotationally driven by the engine. A cutting blade having a circular central hole mounts on and is rotationally driven by the blade mounting mechanism. The blade mounting mechanism comprises a spindle rotatably mounted on the support arm, an adaptor upon which the cutting blade is mounted, and a clamping mechanism capable of axially and angularly locking the cutting blade to the spindle. When the blade is mounted on the adaptor, the central hole of the blade mounts on the corresponding one of a plurality of differently sized radial support surfaces on the adaptor so that the axis of rotation of the blade is substantially co-axial with that of the spindle.

  • Patent number: 8122972
Abstract: A hollow piston drive mechanism for a hammer drill comprises a crank pin 54 having a cylindrical link member 68 rigidly connected to a part-spherical bearing 70. The part-spherical bearing 70 is slidably and rotatably disposed in a part-spherical recess 72 formed in the crank plate 52, as a result of which the bearing 70 can be easily mounted to the recess 72. The cylindrical link member 68 is slidably disposed in a cylindrical bearing 56 formed in the end of the hollow piston 58. The crank pin 54 is therefore able to rock back and forth in the spherical recess 72 as well as slide up and down in the cylindrical bearing 56.

  • Patent number: 7864302
Abstract: A scan sensor emits detection beams for detecting objects in a scanning area within a scanning plane. The position of the scanning plane is changed by pivoting the sensor device in a scanning area, to produce multiple detection planes. Detection points of objects in the surroundings of the sensor device are detected by the detection beams in the detection planes. Lines are extracted from the detection points of a respective detection plan. Measuring points are determined at the intersection points of the lines with one or more predetermined measuring planes. The measuring points in a respective measuring plane are classified into blocks and lines are extracted on a block basis from the measuring points of the blocks generated, as a result of which structures of objects in the measuring planes are determined.

  • Patent number: 7705497
Abstract: A power tool cooling system comprises a cooling fan disposed on a motor in a position between the upper field coil and the lower commutator. A transmission housing encapsulates the transmission mechanism. During operation, the fan is driven by the motor and draws air axially through the motor and expels the air radially outwardly through holes in the outer housing of the motor. This causes air to be drawn in through the air vents formed on the top of a tool housing, in the side of the housing and between the housing and a battery pack. The cool air flows outside of the transmission housing, but inside the tool housing such that air does not pass through the transmission mechanism. A plurality of motor openings are also formed in the outer housing of the motor to enable cool air to pass into the motor to cool the motor.

  • Patent number: 7696894
Abstract: In the method for determining a relative position of a mobile unit by comparing scans of an environment, scans of an environment of the mobile unit are recorded continuously by a distance sensor and stored in a memory. Furthermore the processing unit compares a first scan with a second scan, with a relative position of the mobile unit at the time of the second scan being determined in relation to a position at the time of the first scan. The method is characterized by the fact that the processing unit compares the first scan iteratively with subsequent scans, with a new relative position of the mobile unit at the time of the relevant subsequent scan being determined relative to the position at the time of the first scan, and with the last relative position determined in each case being taken into account as a-priori information.

  • Patent number: 7306049
Abstract: A gear wheel is rotatably mounted on a drive shaft. The drive shaft has a plurality of longitudinal splines formed thereon. A drive sleeve surrounds the drive shaft and has a plurality of the inner splines formed on its interior surface. The inner splines slidably intermesh with outer splines of the drive shaft such that the drive sleeve can slide up and down on but cannot rotate relative to the drive shaft. A coil spring biases the drive sleeve downwardly. Drive sleeve teeth are formed around the bottom edge of the drive sleeve. Corresponding gear plate teeth are formed on the upper surface of the gear wheel and are adapted to engage the drive sleeve teeth when the drive sleeve is in its downward most position under the influence of the coil spring. In this position, the gear wheel is operatively coupled to the drive shaft.
