    Abstract: The invention relates to a device for detecting contact of a tool (2a, 2b) with an electrical conductor (5b) encased by an electrical insulation (5a). In order to ensure a reliable, robust and simple display of the tool-conductor contact for potential-free and short cable lengths, the tool (2a, 2b) consisting of an electrically conductive material is fastened to a tool holder (1a; 1b) made of electrically conductive material. A thin electrical insulation is provided between tool (2a, 2b) and tool holder (1a, 1b) so that these components together with the coaxial cable form a capacitor (CS). An inductance (La; Lb) is connected parallel to this so that a high-Q LC resonant circuit is formed between tool and tool holder. The electronic circuit arrangement excites the resonant circuit and determines characteristic oscillation parameters of this resonant circuit.

    Abstract: The means of sealing the compressor wheel with respect to the bearing housing includes an annular sealing element which forms a sealing boundary face with a shaft edge and to which a spring force is applied in the direction of the shaft edge. The external spring force neither compensates or amplifies the pressure forces acting on the sealing element, irrespective of the direction of the difference in pressure. As a result, the sealing of the oil space in the bearing housing of the exhaust gas turbocharger with respect to the shaft is not influenced, or is influenced only to a small degree, by the pressure fluctuations in the wheel back space of the compressor.

    Abstract: The object of the invention is to provide a method of operating a simply constructed centrifugal compressor equipped, in the region of the rear wall of the compressor impeller, with no sealing elements in the separating gap between the compressor impeller and the compressor casing, which method increases the service life of the centrifugal compressor. An appliance for carrying out the method is also to be made available. In accordance with the invention, this is achieved by introducing a cooling medium into the separating gap downstream of the leakage flow of the working medium and by finally removing this again after the cooling process has taken place. For this purpose, at least one supply duct for a gaseous cooling medium, the duct penetrating the compressor casing, opening into the separating gap in the region of the rear wall of the compressor impeller and directed onto the rear wall, and at least one removal duct for the cooling medium are arranged in the compressor casing.

    Abstract: A coupling unit for coupling a shaft to a surrounding hub has an inner ring which surrounds the shaft and is in turn surrounded by an outer ring. The juxtaposed surfaces of the two rings define with one another two wedge-shaped annular gaps which taper towards each other axially of the rings. Tension members are inserted into these gaps and both extend through the tension members so as to draw them axially together in order to force the rings against the shaft and the hub, respectively. An abutment ring is located between the inner and outer rings and has circumferentially spaced bores some of which are smooth and some of which are tapped. By cooperation of the bolts and the abutment ring the tension members can be forced out of the respective gaps when the connection between shaft and hub is to be released.
