  • Patent number: 7627331
Abstract: An extension to the Location Information Service (LIS) architecture uses a centralized, user-selected, Privacy Profile Register (PPR) and Presence Register (PR) element, the User Privacy and Presence Register (UPPR) (also known as the Home Register (HR)). This centralized model provides access to value added services that allow the user to be located anywhere in the world by people and services of his choosing. It also provides network elements using this location information with security that the location being provided has certification.

  • Publication number: 20090146876
Abstract: A system and method for estimating the position of a mobile device using information from a constellation of satellites. A first set of satellites of the constellation may be selected and then a second set of satellites of the constellation may be selected as a function of signals received from the first set of satellites. Data may be transmitted to the mobile device based on signals received from the second set of satellites, and a location of the device estimated based on the data. One embodiment may select the second set as a function of an intersection of coverage areas of ones of the first set of satellites. Another embodiment may select the second set as a function of one or more satellites that are not occluded by the Earth from one or more of the first set of satellites.

  • Publication number: 20090146877
Abstract: A system and method for estimating the location of a wireless device. A set of satellites may be determined as a function of an approximate area in which the wireless device is located. Assistance data is transmitted to the device including information from the set of satellites, and a location of the device may be estimated from the information where the assistance data prevents the wireless device from searching for signals from one or more satellites in the set of satellites. The one or more satellites may be an operable satellite but signals therefrom cannot be measured or acquired by the wireless device.

  • Publication number: 20090146872
Abstract: A system and method for determining the location of a wireless device. A boundary for an approximate area in which the wireless device is located is determined and a plurality of satellites may be determined as a function of the boundary. Assistance data is transmitted to the device which includes information from the plurality of satellites, and the location of the wireless device may be determined from the information. In one embodiment, if the number of the plurality of satellites is greater than a predetermined threshold then the number of satellites may be reduced as a function of one or more of the elevation of each satellite above the horizon, a distance between each satellite to one or more other satellites, and an altitude of each satellite.

  • Publication number: 20090146878
Abstract: A system and method for determining a location of a device. Plural signals from a first plurality of satellites may be received a the device where an estimated location of the device is determined as a function of frequency information from the signals. A location of the device may then be determined as a function of the estimated location and/or as a function of phase information from the signals. A second plurality of satellites may also be determined as a function of any one of the determined locations. In such embodiments, assistance data may be transmitted to the device that includes information from the second plurality of satellites. Another location of the device may then be determined from this information.

  • Publication number: 20060161967
Abstract: Methods and apparatus for sharing of authenticated data includes sharing of location information data from a certified source. The method of sending authenticated data from a sender to a third party comprises the steps of: determining data associated with a communication session initiated by a user, the data being unauthenticated; sending the unauthenticated data to an intermediary to give rise to authenticated data, the intermediary having an authentication arrangement with the third party and a relationship with the sender; receiving the authenticated data from the intermediary in dependence on the relationship; and sending the authenticated data to the third party.
