  • Patent number: 10051928
Abstract: A wrist-worn device clasp that secures a strap of the wrist-worn device. A first mechanical part of the wrist worn device interlocks with a second mechanical part by motion in a first plane in order to resist motion perpendicular to said first plane. The first mechanical part also inhibits a first securing part and a second securing part being separated by tension along the strap substantially perpendicular to the first plane when the first mechanical part and second mechanical part are engaged with each other. The first securing part and the second securing part inhibit separation of the first mechanical part and the second mechanical part by motion parallel to the first plane when they are engaged with each other by motion perpendicular to the first plane.

  • Patent number: 10057231
Abstract: Proximity of a wearable processing device to a data processing apparatus is detected based on wireless signals received by the data processing apparatus from the wearable processing device. A user input operation is detected which comprises a physical interaction with the data processing apparatus. In response to detecting the user input operation, at least one detection parameter is calibrated for the proximity detection. This provides a convenient technique for calibrating the proximity detection which does not require complicated operations from the user.

  • Patent number: 10042996
Abstract: A trusted device, such as a wristwatch, is provided with authentication circuitry, used to perform an authentication operation to switch the trusted device into an authenticated state. Retention monitoring circuitry monitors the physical possession of the trusted device by the user following the authentication operation and switches the trusted device out of an authenticated state if the trusted device does not remain in the physical possession of the user. While the trusted device remains in the physical possession of the user, communication triggering circuitry is used to detect a request to establish communication with a target device that is one of a plurality of different target devices and communication circuitry is used to communicate with that target device using an authenticated identity of the user.

  • Publication number: 20180165962
Abstract: Vehicles which are provided with at least one sensor and a location system, such as a Global Positioning System (GPS) detect parking spaces and/or road obstacles when driving along a road. The detected parking space and/or road obstacle data is transferred to a remote processing module. The processing module may then provide the detected parking space and/or road obstacle data to a requesting vehicle, which is located in the vicinity of the detected parking space and/or road obstacle. In addition, the at least one sensor may detect road data, such as data regarding parking restrictions at the location of the detected parking space. The detected road data may be used to determine whether the detected parking space is available to the requesting vehicle. Furthermore, parking permit data may be used to determine whether the detected parking space is available to the requesting vehicle.

  • Patent number: 9715076
Abstract: An optical cable includes an optical core and sheath enclosing the optical core. The optical core includes a number of optical units having respective colors and being wound about a longitudinal axis of the cable. The sheath includes at least one non opaque longitudinal section through which a sequence of colors of the optical units is visible from outside the cable. The color sequence acts as an identifier for the cable. The cable may therefore be easily identified (e.g. amongst other cables laid down within the same duct) by a simple visual inspection of the cable's inner structure through the non opaque section(s) of its external sheath.

  • Publication number: 20170131996
Abstract: A data processing device has a processor which executes software directly from non-volatile memory. The processor has a runtime component which dynamically maps software element identifiers specified by the software to corresponding software elements in memory. Mapping information is used to determine which software elements identifiers correspond to which software elements. This provides a level of indirection which can be used to make software updates more efficient, by updating only parts of the software while leaving old parts of the software as they are. Updated software elements can be stored to memory and the mapping information updated to point to the new elements, while existing mappings may be retained.

  • Publication number: 20170124371
Abstract: A device worn by a user has a device body providing a first surface that is located adjacent to skin of the user when the device is being worn. Fingerprint sensor circuitry on the device comprises a capacitive fingerprint sensor and associated control circuitry, a primary impedance path being established between electrodes of the capacitive fingerprint sensor when a user places a finger on the capacitive fingerprint sensor. The associated control circuitry passes an AC drive signal through the capacitive fingerprint sensor in order to measure a property whose value varies as a function of impedance. A body ground connection provided by the device body is arranged such that when the user touches the fingerprint sensor, a parasitic impedance path is established from the finger through the body of the user and via the first surface of the device body to the body ground connection.

  • Patent number: 9588624
Abstract: A wrist worn device includes a metal device housing and a capacitive touch sensor. The capacitive touch sensor includes a conductive plate which is supported by and separated from the metal body of the device housing via an isolation body formed of PTFE (low static relative permittivity). An outer plate is formed over the conductive plate and is formed of glass (high static relative permittivity). The action of the isolation body is to reduce the effect of the metal device housing on the capacitance detected by the conductive plate. The effect of the outer plate is to try to increase the effect of the capacitance associated with the object being brought into proximity with the conductive plate.

  • Publication number: 20170039085
Abstract: A data processing system operates in a plurality of modes including a first privilege mode and a second privilege mode with the first privilege mode giving rights of access that are not available in the second privilege mode. Application code executes in the second privilege mode and generates function calls to hypervisor code which executes in the first privilege mode. These function calk are to perform a secure function requiring the rights of access which are only available in the first privilege mode. Scheduling code which executes in the second privilege mode controls scheduling of both the application code and the hypervisor code. Memory protection circuitry operating with physical addresses serves to control access permissions required to access different regions within the memory address space using configuration data which is written by the hypervisor code.
