  • Patent number: 4797166
Abstract: An alloy, e.g. a Cr-Ti alloy, is transformed to a metastable crystal modification, e.g., by heating in an electric arc and quenching in water. The metastable crystal modification is annealed at a temperature which is below the glass temperature, e.g. at 600.degree. C. during 48 hours, causing it to vitrify completely. The inventive method provided the production of large pieces of hard and non-porous amorphous alloy with thicknesses in the centimeter range.

  • Patent number: 4114018
Abstract: A technique for ablating a metal workpiece by the use of laser beam radiation at an efficiency higher than heretofore possible and an improved regulation of the ablation process. Undesired side effects of the ablation process are eliminated by the entire and complete ejection of the molten metal at the point of beam impingement so that no material remains on the workpiece in the areas between contiguous points of ablation. The appropriate selection of beam intensity and the selection of pulse shape provide the inventive technique.
