  • Publication number: 20080001378
Abstract: A control arm (12) is provided especially for the wheel suspension of a motor vehicle. The control arm (12) includes at least two connection points (13, 14, 15) for the pivotingly movable connection of the control arm 12 to a body structure and to a wheel guide component as well as a strut arrangement, which connects the connection points. The control arm strut arrangement is composed of at least two strut parts (17, 18, 19), wherein the strut parts are designed as separate profiled parts with an essentially flat or open cross-sectional shape. This presents a modular system for the design and the manufacture of control arms of extensively any desired shape for axle systems and wheel suspensions of motor vehicles. Relatively no appreciable tool costs are incurred for generating variants of control arms or new control arm structural shapes.

  • Patent number: 7148445
Abstract: A process for manufacturing a tie rod housing formed of a tie rod head (1) and a shaft element (2) fastened thereto. The tie rod head (1) receives its final shape by a mechanical machining process after the manufacture of the tie rod housing blank. The shaft element (2) and the tie rod head (1) are connected by means of a resistance pressure welding process. At least two material accumulations (8, 9), which connect the two components to one another, are brought about by a welding operation. The at least two material accumulations (8, 9) are subsequently created between the outer circumferential surface of the tie rod head (1) and of the shaft element (2).

  • Patent number: 7037023
Abstract: A ball-and-socket joint, especially a wheel guide joint for motor vehicles is provided with a housing (1), in the cavity (2) of which, which is open on at least one side, a bearing shell (3) is inserted with a joint ball (4) mounted therein. The bearing shell (3) forms a assembly unit (3,4) together with the joint ball (4) accommodated therein. The assembly unit is displaceable in the cavity (2) along a axis (6). A first collar (7) and a second collar (8), between which a limited free path (5) of the displaceable assembly unit (3, 4) is defined, form end stops in the cavity (2) of the housing (1). The bearing shell (3) is a accomodated in the cavity (2) under a slight radial pretension and at least one compensating element (15) is arranged between the bearing shell (3) and the inner surface of the cavity (2).

  • Patent number: 6592284
Abstract: A process for manufacturing a low-friction ball-and-socket joint is provided in which a ball pivot with a pivot area and with a joint ball made in one piece therewith is first introduced into a bearing shell (2, 2.1, 2.2) and the latter is in turn introduced through an opening (4) into a joint housing (5), wherein the opening (4) of the housing (3) is closed by a housing cover (5) after the introduction of the components. The pivot area (1.1) of the ball pivot (1) is then introduced into a recording device of a torque measuring device to determine the torque of the joint between the bearing shells (2.1,2.2) and the joint ball (1.2). The housing cover (5) is then permanently fixed by a rolling device (10) by bending over a rolled edge (9) of the housing arranged on the housing (3). The torque of the joint is continuously measured during the rolling operation and is compared with a presettable set point. The housing cover (5) displaces the upper bearing shell (2.

  • Publication number: 20020192016
Abstract: The invention relates to a ball joint, especially a wheel guidance joint for motor vehicles. Said ball joint comprises a housing (1) with a cavity (2) that is open to at least one side. A bearing shell (3) that accommodates a ball (4) is inserted in said cavity. The bearing shell (3) can be displaced, together with the ball (4) that it receives, in the cavity (2) along an axis (6). A first shoulder (7) and a second shoulder (8) define end stops in the cavity (2) of the housing (1), a limited free trajectory (5) of the displaceable bearing shell (3) being defined between said two stops. The inventive joint is further characterized in that the bearing shell (3) is mounted in the cavity (2) under the effect of a gentle radial pretension. At least one compensating element (15) is arranged between the outer surface of the bearing shell (3) and the inner surface of the cavity (2).

  • Patent number: 5882137
Abstract: A process for preparing a low-friction ball joint and a ball joint prepared according to this process are presented, wherein a ball pivot with a joint ball made integrally in one piece with it is fitted into an insert ring via the intermediary of a bearing shell, which is cylindrical on the outside at least in some areas, the insert ring is subsequently screwed with its external thread into the internal thread of a housing in a self-locking manner, and the insert ring is then additionally tightened in the housing.

  • Patent number: 5851082
Abstract: An axial ball-and-socket joint for linkages in motor vehicles, comprising a metallic housing, which is open on one side and has a fastening pin opposite the open side of the housing. A likewise metallic joint ball, which is mounted in it in a bearing shell made of plastic and is provided at the end of a ball pivot. The ball pivot projects from the open side of the housing coaxially with the fastening pin, wherein the joint ball is held in the housing by deformation of the material of the open edge of the housing. The bearing shell made of plastic is supported on the housing side with the fastening pin with an oblique surface against an oblique surface on the housing and against a buffer made of a material having selected elastic characteristics, which is inserted between the bearing shell and a radial support surface provided on the housing.
