Abstract: A method, system, and article of manufacture, wherein a plurality of references to a plurality of files corresponding to a plurality of devices are stored in a data structure implemented in a computational device, wherein the computational device is coupled to the plurality of devices via a network. Access is enabled to the data structure to a distributed application, wherein the distributed application uses a stored reference in the data structure to determine a file corresponding to a device, and wherein the distributed application performs data transfer operations with the device via the determined file.

Abstract: A method, apparatus and program storage device for providing service access control for a user interface is disclosed. A service secret is combined with a user access code, such as a user ID/password. A system can extract the service secret and determine whether access to service functions should be allowed to provide authentication and authorization for service interface access in secure manner.

Abstract: A method and system for communicating with a managed object. An operator utilizes a user interface tool to initiate communication with the managed object through a server in communication with the managed object. A syntax tree pertaining to the meta data file of the managed object is created in real-time. The syntax tree informs the operator of the required syntax for a command, and parses data entered by the operator for appropriate formatting and presentation. Accordingly, the user interface enables dynamic communication of syntax and response formatting between the operator and the managed object.
