  • Patent number: 4771631
Abstract: A device for measuring the moisture content and basic weight of paper in a gravimetric and more accurate manner than before. The device includes a cutting device for cutting the sample from a specimen sheet, a balance for weighing the sample, a computer for computing the moisture content and the basic weight of the sample, an output device for printing out the results of the moisture content and basic weight as well as a controller for controlling the device automatically and advantageously a drying device for drying the sample.

  • Patent number: 4678325
Abstract: The available equipment for measuring optical properties of paper are inconvenient in use and calibration thereof is inaccurate. In addition, properties of a sample are not analyzed sufficiently. According to the invention, a background screen (2) of an apparatus is adapted to be displaced relative to housing (1) and provided with elements (17-21) for measuring optical properties and calibrating said apparatus. In addition, an assembly (9-15) for processing scattered light comprises a grid (13) and at least one limiter (15), positioned between detector (16) and grid in the immediate proximity of detector and adapted to be movable along with detector over the entire range of a spectrum.

  • Patent number: 4596152
Abstract: The invention relates to a method of measuring tear resistance of paper. At present, the measurements are effected by using a multi-layer pack of paper and by tearing it by means of the potential energy of a pendulum. According to the invention, a paper sample (1) is provided with a tongue-shaped test blank (2), whose one end (3) is secured to the paper sample, said paper sample is torn by pulling the test blank and/or paper sample in different directions relative to each other and the tearing force is measured.

  • Patent number: 4550613
Abstract: The present-day devices for automatic determination of the tensile strength properties of a sheet of paper are complicated, inconvenient to operate and incapable of producing immediate test results. According to the invention, the apparatus comprises two operating elements (6, 7) between which a sheet of paper of desired length is adapted to be introduced, the former operating element (6) comprising a fixing block (1) and a pulling block (2) and the latter operating element (7) comprising a fixing head (3) and a pulling head (4), said fixing head being compressible against the fixing block and said pulling head being compressible against the pulling block for fastening a sheet of paper. The other operating element is further fitted with a cutter means (8) which is adapted cut off a sheet of paper a sample of standard width as the sheet is positioned against the fixing block.
