Abstract: Disclosed is a system for controlling a host using a remote control whose functions are defined by that host. Functions on the remote control are arranged by the host and grouped logically for easy navigation. The communication between the remote and host is bi-directional, and can occur in real time. The controlled devices can be devices for controlling applications within a home or within a commercial building.

Abstract: Disclosed are a modular audio/video assembly and method of assembly. The modular audio/video assembly can include a housing and a main board disposed within the housing. A plurality of interfaces can be associated with the main board and each interface can be coupleable to a module that provides audio/video functionality for the assembly. The main board and the respective modules are cooperative to provide a set of selected audio/video functions. The assembly can operate on all digitized signals for optimum fidelity. A host within the assembly has an interface to a remote control to transmit to said remote control information for the modules in the assembly.
