    Abstract: An independent strut suspension utilizes upright twin spindles and a spindle cap linked to the spindles that translates vertically along the spindles as the suspension moves over uneven terrain. An upright strut shaft is mounted in a strut journal for axial and rotational movement with respect to the journal. A steering arm is connected for rotation about the strut shaft axis, and the strut shaft moves axially with respect to the steering arm as the frame moves over the uneven terrain. The upright spindles connect the steering arm and the upper mount, and a spring is supported between the upper end of the strut shaft and the upper mount and provides cushioning for the wheel support as the strut shaft moves axially in the journal.

    Abstract: An agricultural sprayer suspension includes four generally identical independent strut suspension assemblies each having a pneumatic spring supported above a strut shaft which is received within a strut journal connected to an adjustable axle. A scissors assembly located above the axle maintains wheel steer while facilitating vertical movement of the strut shaft within the journal. On non-steerable wheels, the lower end of the scissors assembly is connected to the journal to maintain a preselected wheel orientation. For steerable wheels, the lower end of the scissors assembly is connected to a hydraulic steering structure which allows axle adjustments for varying wheel tread. Similar construction of the steerable and non-steerable wheel assemblies reduces the number of different parts required and facilitates selective construction of sprayers with either two-wheel or four-wheel steering. A centrally located cab and sloping hood structure provide good visibility and direct viewing of all four wheels.

    Abstract: Adjustable axle or similar telescoping structure includes an outer frame tube of square section which telescopingly receives an inner tube having a top shim-contacting surface, two parallel side surfaces, and a lower wall of inverted V-shaped section defining two additional downwardly directed shim-contacting surfaces. Three flat plates of a polymer material are supported between the three shim-contacting surfaces and the outer frame tube. One pad is attached to the upper surface on the inside of the outer tube. The remaining two pads are connected to a wedge-shaped steel bar and are oriented upwardly by the bar to contact the two shim-contacting surfaces on the inverted V-shaped section. The bottom wall of the outer frame tube is drilled and nuts are welded onto the outer surface to receive bolts which are screwed into the nuts to contact the bottom of the bar. When the bolts are tightened, they force the inner tube upward so it contacts the upper pad.
