Patent number: 10780842Abstract: A mounting system for a sheet on a vehicle includes two elongate rub rails with undercut channels to receive the sheet and tensioning components. The upper rub rail is engaged with one of opposed edges of the sheet. An elongate engagement is engaged with the other opposed edge of the sheet and includes one frame rail and an engagement surface both facing the upper rub rail. An elongate retainer includes a bead engaged with the lower rub rail, another frame rail and parallel retainer surfaces, the second frame rail and the parallel retainer surfaces facing away from the upper rub rail. The engagement surface is movable laterally of the parallel retainer surfaces to be positioned in interlocking engagement with any one of the parallel retainer surfaces to tension the sheet.Type: GrantFiled: November 15, 2019Date of Patent: September 22, 2020Assignee: EPIC INTELLECTUAL PROPERTIES, LLCInventor: Marvin A. Smith

Patent number: 7827716Abstract: A mounting for sheet signage which includes a base structure of frame elements, an elongate support having frame members and sheet attachments. Mounts on the base and on the elongate supports facilitate placement of the mounting on the base structure. Interlocking elements are engageable through relative longitudinal displacement between the elongate supports and the base which are neither engageable nor disengageable through relative lateral displacement between these elements. A mounting for sheet signage also contemplates the integration of a vehicle frame with sheet attachments.Type: GrantFiled: April 17, 2007Date of Patent: November 9, 2010Inventor: Marvin A. Smith

Patent number: 6945300Abstract: A mounting system is disclosed for the mounting of a sheet on a roll-up door. The sheet is contemplated to have top and bottom opposed edges with continuous beads therealong for association with the mounting system. An elongate frame member is fixed to an upper one of the elongate panels in the elongate direction thereof. The frame member includes a mortise to receive the continuous bead along the top edge of the sheet. An elongate spring cover is mounted to one of the lower elongate panels of the roll-up door and has an access opening facing toward the elongate frame member. Springs are affixed within the elongate spring cover and attached to an elongate attachment which also includes a mortise to receive the continuous bead of the bottom edge of the sheet. The assembly of the springs, elongate attachment and sheet extend through the access opening.Type: GrantFiled: February 27, 2003Date of Patent: September 20, 2005Inventor: Marvin A. Smith

Patent number: 6782647Abstract: A mounting for a sheet that has a bead about its periphery includes frame members forming a rectangle with each frame member including mutually parallel multiple engagement surfaces defined on ribs. An elongate retainer includes an elongate flange with an interlocking surface which can selectively interlock with any one of the engagement surfaces on the frame. The frame also has a frame rail having a rail surface that faces away from a retainer rail surface on a rail of the retainer. A tool including pinch rollers squeeze the rail surfaces toward one another to place the sheet material held by the retainer in tension while the interlocking surface is engaged with the appropriate engagement surface.Type: GrantFiled: January 8, 2003Date of Patent: August 31, 2004Assignee: Epic Media Group LLCInventors: James L. Richards, Marvin A. Smith

Patent number: 6698123Abstract: A mounting for a sheet to the side of a truck or the like includes attachment members forming a rectangle frame. Certain of the attachment members include frame members including mutually parallel multiple engagement surfaces defined on ribs. An elongate retainer, which cooperates with the frame members, is RF welded to the sides of the sheet. The retainer includes an elongate flange with an interlocking surface selectively interlocking with any one of the engagement surfaces on the frame. Both the frame member and the elongate retainer include rails. A tool including pinch rollers squeeze the rails toward one another to tension and mount the sheet. The sheet mounting for a roll-up door further includes rollers extending above the top of the door which are spring mounted. The sheet extends from the lower front of the roll-up door up over the rollers and is attached to the back side of an upper elongate panel of the roll-up door.Type: GrantFiled: November 15, 2001Date of Patent: March 2, 2004Inventor: Marvin A.
