Publication number: 20180077458Abstract: Systems and methods for blocking inappropriate or undesired media content. Commercials are reviewed and assigned ratings or other attributes. Metadata including one or more flags identifying a commercial's rating or other attribute is embedded or inserted into media guidance application data for the commercial or for the media content during which the commercial is to be displayed. The media guidance application data is then sent to a viewer's equipment. The equipment receives the media guidance application data, parses the data for the metadata, and then determines if the commercial can be displayed based on parental control restrictions set by a user.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 24, 2017Publication date: March 15, 2018Inventors: Michael K. McCarty, Marvin Charles Carlberg

Publication number: 20150169603Abstract: Methods and systems are provided herein for sourcing a design file for three-dimensional printing of an object presented within a video. These methods and systems are provided by receiving a selection of an object, and generating a display including at least one of (1) a first selectable option to submit a design file describing a three-dimensional representation of the object, and (2) a second selectable option to access a design file describing a three-dimensional representation of the object submitted by another user. If the first selectable option is selected, the user's design file may be transmitted to a database for storage. If the second selectable option is selected, the design file that was submitted by another user (or previously submitted by the same user) may be retrieved from the database.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 18, 2013Publication date: June 18, 2015Applicant: United Video Properties, Inc.Inventors: Walter R. Klappert, Marvin Charles Carlberg, Michael B. Case, Michael K. McCarty, Jeffrey Neil Berenson, Raymond Valadez, JR.

Publication number: 20150165685Abstract: Methods and systems are provided herein for delivering an appropriate design file for printing of a three-dimensional object based on a determined printer capability. The determined printer capability may be, for example, the capabilities of a printer that is operatively linked with the user equipment. The determined printer capability may also or alternatively correspond to, for example, one or more entries in a user profile. In particular, a selection of an object in a video may be received at the user equipment. A set of design files associated with that object is identified, where each design file describes a three-dimensional representation of the object. A design file from the set of design files may be selected based on the determined printer capability. A request may be transmitted to the printer to print the three-dimensional representation of the object described by the selected design file.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 18, 2013Publication date: June 18, 2015Applicant: UNITED VIDEO PROPERTIES, INC.Inventors: Walter R. Klappert, Marvin Charles Carlberg, Michael B. Case, Michael K. McCarty, Jeffrey Neil Berenson, Raymond Valadez, JR.

Publication number: 20150172773Abstract: Methods and systems are provided herein for recommending an object of a plurality of objects for 3D printing. These methods and systems are provided by way of identifying a set of objects presented within a video being viewed by a viewer. One object of the set of objects may be selected based on a user profile. For example, in a scene where a coffee mug and a toy figurine are presented, and the user watching the video including the scene is a child, the toy figurine might be selected because the child's user profile may reflect an affinity for toys, or because the child is too young to drink coffee. A design file describing a three-dimensional representation of the object might be retrieved, and a request may be transmitted to a printer to print the three-dimensional representation of the object.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 18, 2013Publication date: June 18, 2015Applicant: UNITED VIDEO PROPERTIES, INC.Inventors: Walter R. Klappert, Marvin Charles Carlberg, Michael B. Case, Michael K. McCarty, Jeffrey Neil Berenson, Raymond Valadez, JR.

Publication number: 20090249400Abstract: A media guidance application having a media content search function is implemented on a plurality of user equipment devices. Search-related communications from users are received and analyzed to identify a media content not currently available via the media guidance application. Once a media content has been identified from at least a threshold number of search-related communications, the media content is offered via the media guidance application. An alert or notice may then be sent to users of the media guidance application, and especially those users who requested the media content, to notify them of the availability of the media content.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 31, 2008Publication date: October 1, 2009Applicant: United Video Properties, Inc.Inventors: Marvin Charles Carlberg, Khalil Haj-khalil

Publication number: 20090235298Abstract: A method for assigning attributes to media content. A media content is first displayed on a television, computer, or other display. A communication created by a user while viewing the media content is then received. The communication is then analyzed, and at least a portion of the communication is linked to a portion of the media content. The communication is also analyzed to identify relevant keywords which are then saved as attributes of the media content. The assigned word or phrase can be used to recommend the media content to other viewers or to find the media content in response to a search function. A method for synchronizing communications with time-shifted media content is also disclosed. A media content such as a television program is displayed during a time period other than its original broadcast time. Communications created by users while watching the media content are then received. The received communications are time-stamped so they can be synchronized with the run-time of the media content.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 25, 2008Publication date: September 17, 2009Applicant: United Video Properties, Inc.Inventors: Marvin Charles Carlberg, Harsimran Sihota, Geoffrey Z. Ombao, Glen E. Roe, Haig H. Krakirian

Publication number: 20090228922Abstract: Methods and devices for presenting an interactive media guidance application are provided in accordance with various embodiments. In some embodiments, methods for presenting an interactive media guidance application in a user equipment device are provided, the methods comprising: receiving a video signal; presenting the video signal on a display in a first area and in a first configuration; receiving one or more commands from a user; and, in response to receiving the one or more commands: selecting a second area of the video signal that is less than the first area of the video signal and causing the second area of the video signal to be presented on the display in a larger size than the second area of the video signal when displayed in the first configuration.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 19, 2008Publication date: September 10, 2009Applicant: United Video Properties, Inc.Inventors: Khalil Haj-khalil, Marvin Charles Carlberg

Patent number: 4048018Abstract: A liquid stream containing the reactants is passed through a bed of enzyme catalyst, made up of enzymes bonded to small, dense particles of carrier or support materials, in a manner which causes the bed to expand or fluidize and a chemical reaction is thereby carried out in a process that is simultaneously free from limitations due to plugging and excessive pressure drop and which also has the advantage of the high mass transfer rates that can be realized between the liquid and small particles.Type: GrantFiled: March 9, 1976Date of Patent: September 13, 1977Inventors: Robert W. Coughlin, Marvin Charles

Patent number: 4016293Abstract: A liquid stream containing the reactants is passed through a bed of enzyme catalyst, made up of enzymes bonded to small, dense particles of carrier or support materials, in a manner which causes the bed to expand or fluidize and a chemical reaction is thereby carried out in a process that is simultaneously free from limitations due to plugging and excessive pressure drop and which also has the advantage of the high mass transfer rates that can be realized between the liquid and small particles. Reactions are carried out in this manner using enzymes bound to porous and non-porous inorganic supporting particles. This process has been employed for treating cheese whey with the enzyme lactase in a fluidized bed of inert particles to which the lactase is bound.Type: GrantFiled: February 11, 1974Date of Patent: April 5, 1977Inventors: Robert W. Coughlin, Marvin Charles
