Abstract: A handle and latch assembly for a flatbread maker, which includes a handle rotatably mounted to an upper heating plate of the flatbread maker. A roller plate extends downward from the handle, adjacent the peripheral edge of the upper plate, the roller plate having a roller rotatably mounted near the lower end thereof. A latch member is secured to a lower portion of the body of the flatbread maker, beneath the lower heating plate. The latch member has a lower surface configuration which includes at least two curved or notched areas therein. The handle is pressed downwardly so that is the roller engages one or the other of the two curved areas, flatbreads with two different thicknesses are produced.

Abstract: The flatbread maker includes a support structure which has a base portion, a short rear portion and an upper portion, wherein the upper portion angles upwardly as it extends forwardly from the rear portion, wherein the base portion includes a central track which extends inwardly from the front edge for receiving a roller element portion of an actuating arm. The actuating arm is generally L-shaped, having a roller element at the joining portion between vertical and lower leg portions thereof, the roller element being configured and arranged to slide along the track when the vertical leg portion of the arm is rotated downwardly, such that the roller element moves along the track and the free end of the lower leg moves upwardly, forcing a lower flatbread plate which is hinged to the rear portion of the support structure to rotate thereabout into a position adjacent an angled lower surface of the upper portion. This results in the pressing, heating and partial cooking of the flatbread.

Abstract: A tortilla maker includes a frame which comprises a base (10), and two vertical spine members (32,34) which are secured to the rear edge of the base (10) and extend upwardly therefrom. A lower tortilla-making element (42) is rotatably connected to the two spine members (32, 34). An intermediate tortilla-making element (86) is also connected to the two spine members (32, 34) and includes a lower surface (89) which is at an angle relative to the upper surface of the lower tortilla-making element (42). A handle (18) is rotatably mounted to the base (10) and is operative to raise the lower element against the lower surface (89) of the intermediate element (86). An upper tortilla-making element (92) is positioned on top of the intermediate element (86), upon which tortillas which have been formed and precooked may be placed, if necessary, for completion of cooking.
