  • Patent number: 8605561
Abstract: A method and device for re-writing data on a holographic storage device is disclosed. First and second electro-optic modulators may phase shift the reference and data beams used to store data on the photorefractive crystal. When the reference beam is shifted 180° out of phase with respect to the data beam, the photorefractive crystal is erased.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: June 18, 2010
Date of Patent: December 10, 2013
    Assignee: Access Optical Networks, Inc.
Inventors: Glenn A. Gladney, Marvin Hutt, Milton Soto
  • Patent number: 8045246
Abstract: A method and system for bulk erasing in a holographic storage system is disclosed. The method may involve illuminating the entire volume storage region of a photorefractive crystal with a laser to achieve bulk erasure, or may involve selective erasure of a portion of a single written page. For bulk erasure of the entire photorefractive crystal the use of a separate laser or an incoherent light source is used.

Date of Patent: October 25, 2011

  • Publication number: 20100322058
Abstract: A holographic memory storage device that uses a photorefractive crystal for storing data is disclosed. The device uses angle-multiplexing in order to store and retrieve page data and sub page data. MEMS devices are used in order to provide individual sector addressing.

  • Publication number: 20060098921
Abstract: An improved hybrid connector for rapidly, reliably, and reversibly making mixed optical and electrical connections has a plug (103) with one or more centrally located fiber-containing optical ferrules (108) and one or more peripheral electrical contacts (109), and second, a socket (105) with interior electrical contacts (115) and a fiber-bearing central floating optical connector (225). Insertion and rotation of a shaft (107) of the plug into a bore (201) of the socket connects the respective electrical contacts of the shaft and socket, and nearly-simultaneously couples the respective optical fibers of the plug ferrule and socket connector, thus creating a rapid, reversible, and low-cost hybrid connection optimized for both the electrical and optical requirements of a mixed optical and electrical connection.

  • Publication number: 20050207470
Abstract: A sensor assembly for measuring temperature at a target location includes a sensor adapted to detect infrared radiation and produce an electrical output. A focusing lens focuses infrared radiation from the target location onto the sensor while substantially preventing infrared radiation from points outside the target location from being detected by the sensor. In a first embodiment, a sensor assembly for a focusing thermometer includes a sensor and a focusing lens. In a second embodiment, a focusing thermometer for measuring temperature at a target location includes a sensor assembly and electronic circuitry that receives electrical output from the sensor assembly and processes the output into a temperature reading. The sensor assembly includes a focusing lens for focusing infrared radiation from the target location onto the sensor while substantially preventing infrared radiation from points outside the target location from being detected by the sensor.

  • Patent number: 6781127
Abstract: A sensor fusion system simultaneously acquires at least two images in a subspectrum of the visible/NIR/SWIR (0.4-2.0 micron) reflective spectrum and in a subspectrum of the thermal infrared (3.0-15 micron) spectral regions using respective sensing arrays viewing a common aperture. Although sensed by separate focal plane arrays, radiation enters at the front-end of a commonly shared focusing optical system so that all sensed radiation originates along exactly the same optical path and then is directed to each sensing plane. This provides precise co-registration of reflective and thermal infrared imagery regardless of the depth-of-field range of the scene being imaged, and enables the precise integration of image fusion processing and algorithms to fully exploit the complementary properties of reflected and thermally emitted radiation from a scene.
