Abstract: This invention describes a method for preparing benzyluracils using methyl benzylcarbamates as intermediates. The method comprises the steps of contacting an alkali metal salt of an ester of 3-amino-4,4,4-trifluoro-2-butenoic acid with a methyl benzylcarbamate I to provide a benzyluracil II. ##STR1## where R, W, V, X and Y are as described in the specification.

Abstract: Novel substituted benzoyloxy compounds exhibit plant regulator activity, retarding or stimulating the growth of a variety of broadleaved plants, while leaving grasses unaffected. The preparation and plant regulator activity of the compounds is exemplified.

Abstract: 2-Substituted isoxazolidine-3,5-diones and isoxazolidine-3-one-5-thiones exhibit herbicidal activity, controlling effectively the growth of a wide spectrum of grassy and broad-leaved plant species. The preparation and herbicidal activity of the compounds is exemplified.

Abstract: A new class of herbicidal compounds consisting of 1,3-dioxanes carrying substituents other than hydrogen in the 2-, 4-, 5-, and 6-positions of the dioxane ring exhibits preemergence and postemergence herbicidal activity, controlling effectively the growth of selected grassy species. The synthesis of members of this class is described in detail, and the utility of representative compounds in exemplified.
