  • Publication number: 20080304793
Abstract: An improved hybrid connector for rapidly, reliably, and reversibly making mixed optical and electrical connections has a male plug with one or more centrally located optical fibers centrally located inside an elongated shaft of a male plug, and one or more electrical contact elements are located on the peripheral surface of the shaft, and a socket with electrical contacts, and a floating optical connector. Insertion of the elongated shaft into the socket connects the electrical contacts of the shaft and socket and couples the fibers of the shaft with optical fibers in the floating optical connector.

  • Patent number: 7427165
Abstract: An improved hybrid connector for rapidly, reliably, and reversibly making mixed optical and electrical connections has a plug (103) with one or more centrally located fiber-containing optical ferrules (108) and one or more peripheral electrical contacts (109), and second, a socket (105) with interior electrical contacts (115) and a fiber-bearing central floating optical connector (225). Insertion and rotation of a shaft (107) of the plug into a bore (201) of the socket connects the respective electrical contacts of the shaft and socket, and nearly-simultaneously couples the respective optical fibers of the plug ferrule and socket connector, thus creating a rapid, reversible, and low-cost hybrid connection optimized for both the electrical and optical requirements of a mixed optical and electrical connection.

  • Patent number: 5042930
Abstract: A binocular surgical loupe which enhances the illumination of the viewed field while avoiding flare effects of illuminating light within the loupe optics. The binocular system utilizes circularly polarized illumination and viewing to prevent flare effects and additionally enhances the illumination of the field of view by utilization of the illumination source waste beam that results from the presence of a beam splitter in the illumination path within the loupe. In addition, a camera system is provided which permits remote viewing of the user's field of view. In one embodiment the camera and view paths include separate, identical zoom lenses which are synchronously controlled so that the fields of illumination and view are kept coextensive. In another embodiment for a binocular loupe, the loupe optics for one eye combines illumination and viewing functions while the loupe for the other eye combines camera and viewing functions.

  • Patent number: 4422896
Abstract: Method and apparatus are disclosed for plasma treating a substrate in a hermetic chamber with a magnetic field having lines of force which leave a support, extend across the surface of the substrate and re-enter the support to enclose the substrate exposed surface in a magnetic electron-trapping field. The voltage applied to the substrate support is adjusted to produce a dense glow discharge closely adjacent the substrate surface for reacting chemically therewith.
