  • Patent number: 6604393
Abstract: A key operated, lock actuating system having a housing and a lock cylinder that is pivotable relative to the housing around a first axis. An actuator assembly is pivotable around the first axis between a fully locked position and an unlocked position. The lock actuating system includes a first key having a first configuration and a second key having a second configuration. The first key can be used to change the actuator assembly between the locked and unlocked positions. The second key, which cannot be fully inserted to be operable with the actuator assembly in the locked position, can be used to change the actuator assembly between the unlocked position and an intermediate locked position.

  • Patent number: 6409234
Abstract: A latch assembly for a movable closure. The latch assembly has a housing with a front, a rear, and a first wall with a forwardly facing surface and an opening through the first wall. The latch assembly further has an actuating assembly including a paddle that is pivotably mounted for movement relative to the housing about a first axis between first and second positions. The paddle has a second wall with a rearwardly facing surface. The actuating assembly further has a post projecting rearwardly from the second wall into the opening through the first wall. The post has a third wall which fully blocks the opening through the first wall as viewed from the front of the latch assembly with the paddle in the first position.

  • Patent number: 6240752
Abstract: A latch system for a closure element that is slidable relative to a mounting frame between first and second positions. The mounting frame has a strike element to be engaged to releasably maintain the closure element in a first position. The latch system has a first frame part, a first handle that is mounted to the first frame part for movement between first and second positions, and a first latch assembly having a latched state and a released state. The first latch assembly in the latched state is capable of cooperating with the strike element to selectively prevent the closure element from moving from the first position for the closure element into the second position for the closure element. The first latch assembly in the released state permits the closure element to move from the second position for the closure element into the first position for the closure element and from the first position for the closure element into the second position for the closure element.

  • Patent number: 5927773
Abstract: A latch assembly for a movable closure, which latch assembly has a housing having a front and rear and a wall with a forwardly facing surface, and an actuating assembly that is changeable between first and second states. The actuating assembly has an actuator element that is operable to selectively change the actuating assembly from the first state into the second state. The housing wall has an opening therethrough to allow the actuating assembly to extend from forwardly of the housing wall through the housing wall opening to rearwardly of the housing wall and reposition a latch element at the rear of the housing as an incident of the actuating assembly changing from the first state into the second state. The actuating assembly has a wall disposed in front of the housing wall that fully blocks the housing opening as viewed from the front of the housing.

  • Patent number: 5606882
Abstract: A lock assembly having a key plug with an axis, a first housing defining a receptacle for the key plug and guiding movement of the key plug in the receptacle around the key plug axis, a latch assembly including a first movable latch element, structure cooperating between the first housing and the latch assembly for supporting the latch assembly in an operative position on the first housing wherein the first latch element is movable between first and second positions relative to the first housing, a retaining element, structure for mounting the retaining element to the key plug for movement relative to the key plug between first and second positions, with the key plug being movable into the key plug receptacle to an operative position and removable from the key plug receptacle with the retaining element in its first position, and structure cooperating between the retaining element and latch assembly for preventing withdrawal of the key plug from the first housing receptacle with the key plug in its operative p

  • Patent number: 5360244
Abstract: A lock assembly having a housing and a plunger assembly guided for movement relative to the housing between a latched position and an unlatched position with the plunger assembly and housing in assembled relationship. A tab is provided on one of the plunger assembly and housing and is repositionable from an assembly position into a holding position. With the tab in the assembly position, the plunger assembly and housing can be placed in and taken out of, their assembled relationship. In the holding position, the tab maintains the plunger assembly and housing in assembled relationship.

  • Patent number: 5127686
Abstract: A door closure assembly is disclosed that has a latch assembly, a housing assembly and a interior panel assembly. The latch assembly is easily mounted to a door and can have a tab that cooperates with a boss on the housing assembly to facilitate alignment of the housing assembly with the latch assembly. The housing assembly is designed to minimize water entry into the door closure assembly, minimize the number of parts that operate on the latch assembly and help identify the key to be used to operate one of the two locks thereof. The inside panel assembly is designed to reduce the number of parts required to operate the latch assembly and is designed so that the handle assembly extending therefrom can be partially rotated before operating the latch assembly.

  • Patent number: 5058937
Abstract: A flush door latch assembly having a housing with a recess defined therein and a paddle within the recess. Pulling on the paddle causes a cam having a helical cam face to cooperate with a cam follower to cause rotation of a pivot plate that retracts the plunger bolt and permits a door, hatch or the like having the present door latch assembly to be opened. The plunger bolt travels towards the same side of the latch assembly that the paddle travels towards when the plunger bolt is being retracted.

  • Patent number: 5042853
Abstract: A latch assembly for releasably securing a closure element with a striker element in a closed position. The latch assembly consists of a housing with a body, a release lever mounted for movement relative to the housing between (a) a normal position and (b) a release position; first and second latch elements mounted to the housing for movement relative to each other and the housing, with the first latch element being movable relative to the housing between a latched position in which it maintains the closure in its closed position and a release position in which the closure can be moved out of its closed position, and cooperating structure on the release lever and first and second latch elements for moving the second latch element relative to the housing and, in response thereto, causing the first latch element to move from its latched position to its release position as an incident of the release lever moving from its normal position to its release position.

  • Patent number: 4689976
Abstract: A pop-up handle assembly having a base with a mounting panel and a tubular housing and a handle with a tubular stem axially movable within a hollow sleeve rotatable within the tubular housing. The handle mounts a key-plug which is depressable to release a lock pin carried by the tubular stem from engagement with a shoulder in the tubular housing whereby the handle pops-up to an operative position under the urging of a spring. The key-plug is rotatable between locked and unlocked positions and into an unlocked position can be depressed to release the handle for movement without the use of a key. The handle assembly has provision for pop-up of the handle from the inner side thereof to free the handle for rotation regardless of whether the key-plug is either locked or unlocked.
