  • Patent number: 4587404
Abstract: A process for creating a thermal storage heat sink which includes providing a mass of a salt or salt mixture held in a hollow container having a wall made of electrically conductive material and having an insulated central electrode extending into the salt mass, installing a layer of an electrically conductive material of less density than the salt on top of and in contact with the salt mass of sufficient extent to conduct electrical energy from the electrode to the container wall, and then heating the salt mass to a molten state by establishing an electric circuit from a power source through the electrode, the layer of conductive material and the container wall sufficient to melt the salt in contact with the conductive layer; and an electric thermal storage device including a hollow container made of a noncorrosive electrical conducting material, an electrode extending vertically into said container from its top and insulated therefrom, a solid body of a salt or a salt mixture installed within the lower port

  • Patent number: 4302933
Abstract: In the operation of an air atomized jet engine augmentor oil burner, the herein disclosed improvement typically comprises a means for modulating the fuel-air ratio of the wake combustion in the jet engine augmentor according to ambient pressures and densities of the supplied air to that ratio which will sustain the highest wake combustion thermal efficiency, and in the process to vaporize and ignite the fuel-air mixture therein instantly and completely into an intense and turbulent flame spread.

  • Patent number: 4059411
Abstract: A fuel composition is disclosed comprising a major portion, in the order of 94% by weight, of a liquid fuel such as gasoline mixed with a minor portion, in the order of 6% by weight, of particulates generally similar to particulates of polyvinyl alcohol of about 10 to 40 microns in size. These particulates are suspended in and are small enough to be metered along with the liquid fuel in a conventional automobile carburetor and when this fuel composition is burned in the combustion chamber of internal combustion engines, the particulates function as nuclei for droplets of the carrier fuel which act as combustion promotion agents in the dry vapor charge at the instant of combustion to intensify the burning process to extend the low lean limit of consistent and regular engine firing and to reduce NO.sub.x. A similar composition of liquid fuel in open flame combustion results in a much improved heat transfer efficiency of the energy in the fuel.
