  • Patent number: 8206825
Abstract: A coated or jacketed wire or cable, and components thereof are disclosed. The coating, jacket, and components, which comprise a polyolefin and a phenolic polymeric antioxidant, exhibit outstanding oxidative thermal stability (as indicated by the increase in the oxidative inductive time (OIT)), when compared to polyolefins containing traditional non-polymeric antioxidants. A greater improvement in the thermal oxidative stability is observed after the polyolefin mixtures have been aged in water-blocking filler(s).
    Type: Grant
    Filed: January 3, 2008
Date of Patent: June 26, 2012
    Assignee: Equistar Chemicals, LP
Inventors: Marvin R. Appel, Mick C. Hundley, Jeffrey S. Borke, Steven W. Horwatt
  • Patent number: 7638597
Abstract: A process to remove metal contaminants from a hydrocarbon solution of polyethylene is disclosed. The process comprises adding a primary alcohol and a ?-diketone to a solution of polyethylene at a temperature within the range of 120° C. to 300° C. and contacting the solution with basic alumina. The process removes metal contaminants and minimizes degradation and condensation products, which can have a detrimental effect on polyethylene properties. The process provides polyethylene with low metal residues and good properties.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: December 17, 2007
Date of Patent: December 29, 2009
    Assignee: Equistar Chemicals, LP
Inventors: Bradley P. Etherton, Marvin R. Appel

  • Patent number: 4886354
Abstract: Apparatus for measuring the formation of crystals in a flowing liquid using a flow way that receives a flow of the liquid therethrough; wherein, the flow way includes an optical means and access for illuminating the liquid with a beam of polarized light and then imaging the illuminated liquid to qualitatively ascertain the rate and type of crystal formation within the liquid.
