    Abstract: Described are processes for removing the bitter aftertaste and enhancing the sweetness of a cola beverage having dissolved therein a sweetening quantity and concentration of aspartame, which causes a bitter aftertaste on subsequent ingestion of the cola beverage. The process consists of adding to the beverage from about 1 up to about 20 ppb of damascenone and at least one of the alcohols: cis-3-hexenol; 1-octen-3-ol; or &bgr;-phenylethyl alcohol. In the alternative, the process consists of adding to the cola beverage from about 1 up to about 20 ppb of &bgr;-homocyclocitral and at least one of the oxo compounds, cis-3-hexenol, acetophenone, or the pineapple compound. In the alternative, the process consists of adding to the cola beverage from about 1 up to about 20 ppb of a mixture of cis-3-hexenol and the pineapple compound.

    Abstract: The invention relates to a process for producing a non-caloric citrus albedo bulking agent comprising obtaining albedo from citrus peels to produce albedo particles substantially free of flavedo, water-washing to reduce soluble carbohydrates, constituents, removing alcohol and water, and bitter constituents, removing alcohol and water, and finally milling to the consistency of flour. The citrus albedo bulking agent obtained from this process is especially useful as a partial replacement for high-caloric ingredients such as flour, fat and/or sugar in a food product with at least a one-third reduction in caloric density, more preferably from 50% to 75% or higher. The citrus albedo bulking agent has a water binding capacity of from 10 to 20 grams of water per one gram of the albedo bulking agent.

    Abstract: The present invention provides a rapidly-soluble sweetener, a process for preparing it, and improved dry beverage mixes employing it.The composition preferably comprises from 15 to 65% fructose, from 15 to 30% of low dextrose equivalence dextrinized starch, and from 30 to 65% sucrose, on a dry solids basis. By preparing it with a density of 0.4 or less, solubility is greatly enhanced over prior art sweeteners, especially sucrose.Because of the improved solubility, carbonation is not lost by requiring stirring of a sweetener when preparing a beverage from a dry carbonated beverage mix.

    Abstract: An ejection seat-mounted system for temporary secure attachment of the li of an aviator or other user to the seat during ejection, preventing limb flail and consequent injury. Initially, two rigid arm restraints are pivotably mounted to the sides of the seat in a nonobstructive raised position, and two rigid leg restraints are mounted at the sides of the seat in a substantially nonobstructive extended position to help keep the aviator's legs in place. After the aviator pulls a D-ring initiating ejection, a first gas generator is fired, causing pivoting of the two seat-mounted arm restraints through 135.degree., and retraction and rotation of the two seat-mounted leg restraints, each of which captures one of the aviator's limbs, draws it to the seat, and holds it in place on or with respect to the seat.

    Abstract: An improved method for fixing volatile flavoring compounds such as acetaldehyde is disclosed. The method comprises rapidly cooling a glassy aqueous sucrose solution to cause it to solidify while maintaining it in the glassy state; charging particles of the solidified glassy sucrose solution and a volatile flavoring compound into a revolving screw fed extruder to cause intimate mixing of the charged materials and to initiate crystallization of the sucrose; expressing the resultant mixture of charged materials from the extruder; subjecting the extruded mixture to additional mixing for a period of time effective to complete crystallization, thereby forming crystalline sucrose having the volatile flavoring compound fixed within the individual sucrose crystals. Volatile flavoring compounds such as acetaldehyde can be fixed at levels of up to about 0.5%.

Upon impact the bladder member automatically inflates to thereby cushion the pelvic and chest areas against the forces of the collision and simultaneously the chin bag member inflates to thereby prevent rotation of the vehicle occupant's chin into his chest.
