  • Patent number: 8540653
Abstract: An apparatus for mechanically ventilating a patient is provided to have two separate components movably arranged with respect to one another within a flexible, air-tight covering fit about the torso of a patient. When the components move away from one another within the air-tight covering, negative pressure is generated which causes the patient to draw air into the lungs. Conversely, when the components stop moving away from one another within the air-tight covering, the patient's natural exhalation recoil takes over to allow the patient to expel the air from within the patient's lungs. A ventilator for helping a patient such as a premature infant breathe when placed in a chamber, is also provided.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: May 27, 2005
Date of Patent: September 24, 2013
    Assignee: Baldy By Design, LLC.
    Inventors: Mary Baldauf, Thomas Baldauf
  • Publication number: 20120330204
Abstract: The present invention is directed to both therapeutic cushioning designed to support the head of a patient in bed to improve respiration and a series of devices designed to assist a patient's respiration and administer fluid to the patient, by ensuring such devices cannot be inadvertently removed from the patient in the absence of medical personnel and cause unwanted injury to the patient. At the same, time, a device is provided to assist a patient's breathing in the absence of such assistive devices, e.g., during sleep.
