    Abstract: Disclosed is an electrolyte permeable, non-asbestos diaphragm for chlor-alkali electrolytic cells. The diaphragm is a cohesive matrix of a non-asbestos structural component and a binder, and is prepared by codepositing the non-asbestos structural component and the binder, along with a pore forming component, from a slurry, rendering the binder thermoplastic, and removing the pore forming component. Also disclosed is a method of preparing the diaphragm, a method of utilizing the diaphragm, and an electrolytic cell containing the diaphragm.
