  • Patent number: 10995592
Abstract: A method for examining uncertainty and risk associated with the development of a hydrocarbon resource by rapidly generating and analyzing variations of reservoir models realized from scenarios. The method and system may include instantiating realizations for objects based on the selected parameter ranges; and combining instantiated realizations of the objects into a reservoir model.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: August 3, 2015
Date of Patent: May 4, 2021
    Assignee: ExxonMobil Upstream Research Company
Inventors: Matthias Imhof, Mary Ellen Meurer
  • Publication number: 20200211127
Abstract: An example method can comprise defining a plurality of subsurface scenarios and discretizing a decision space to determine a plurality of distinct decision scenarios. The subsurface scenarios can be sparsely sampled to determine a candidate subset of the plurality of subsurface scenarios. Each of the candidate subset of the plurality of subsurface scenarios can be associated with a respective one of the plurality of distinct decision scenarios. Each of the plurality of distinct decision scenarios can be modelled based on each of the candidate subset of the plurality of subsurface scenarios to determine risk and reward values for each of the plurality of distinct decision scenarios.

  • Patent number: 8437997
Abstract: Methods, computer-readable mediums, and systems analyze hydrocarbon production data from a subsurface region to determine geologic time scale reservoir connectivity and production time scale reservoir connectivity for the subsurface region. Compartments, fluid properties, and fluid distribution are interpreted to determine geologic time scale reservoir connectivity and production time scale reservoir connectivity for the subsurface region. A reservoir connectivity model based on the geologic time scale and production time scale reservoir connectivity for the subsurface region is constructed, wherein the reservoir connectivity model includes a plurality of production scenarios each including reservoir compartments, connections, and connection properties for each scenario. Each of the production scenarios is tested and refined based on production data for the subsurface region.
