  • Publication number: 20130166659
Abstract: A control server is intended for controlling content distribution to peers coupled to a communication network which comprises at least one content serving means (CNS, N1-N3) storing contents. This control server is arranged i) for transmitting messages to these peers to inform them that a content will soon be distributed by means of an identified multicast session, and to identify content parts that have been respectively associated to them, and ii) for ordering at least one content serving means to initiate this identified multicast session to transmit the content to the peers, in order those having decided to listen to the multicast session store the content parts that have been identified into their respective messages.

  • Publication number: 20120167150
Abstract: The present invention concerns a method of transferring content from a first communication device to a second communication device in a communication network, comprising the following steps: defining a first probability, according to which a content can be encoded; defining a second probability, according to which a content can be chosen; upon request of content from said second communication device to said first communication device: encoding content with another content according to said first probability, said content being chosen with said second probability, and transferring content z=x XOR y from said first communication device to said second communication device, or according to probability 1-pe transferring unencoded content x from said first communication device to said second communication device.

  • Patent number: 8078034
Abstract: In a method and an apparatus for navigating through subtitles of an Audio Video data stream an address information of one or more played back data units is stored together with the subtitle information of said played back data units during play back of said data units. One or more of said stored subtitle information can be displayed. Following the selection of one of said displayed subtitle information the stored address information of the data unit corresponding to the selected subtitle information is retrieved and the corresponding data unit is accessed using said retrieved address information. Playing back the accessed data unit conveniently allows to watch and listen to a scene including subtitles again, e.g. by a few clicks on the remote control.

  • Patent number: 8065591
Abstract: The invention relates to a method of transmitting digital data packets protected by error correction packets and more precisely the manner of inserting these correction packets into the data packet stream so as to increase the correction effectiveness of the error correction method while limiting the latency introduced into the transmission. The packets are set out in matrix form, error packets are computed on lines and columns and are inserted regularly into the stream at a sufficient distance from the data packets that they protect.

  • Patent number: 7895619
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for controlling of the display of audio-visual program by a receiver provided with means of receiving and recording audio-visual programs. The method comprises a step of recording a first program selected by the user; and subsequent to an action by the user to display the recorded program, a step of playback a program of a second type pre-recorded in the recording means (this program being for example of an advertising type), and a step which consists in displaying the second type program before the end of the first program display for a time interval stored in the receiver, the display of the first program being conditional to the display of the second-type program. The invention is characterized in that it comprises an improvement, whereby the receiver keeps an account of the duration of display of programs of the second type and authorizes unconditionally the display of programs after a certain duration.

  • Patent number: 7716559
Abstract: The invention concerns a method for securing a data packet stream involving the following steps: arranging the packets to be sent in a matrix of D rows and L columns; to each row and each column of the matrix, applying an error correction function, the result of which is a correction packet; then sending the resulting correction packets in addition to the data packets. The invention also concerns a method for reconstructing lost packets in a data packet stream involving the following steps: arranging the received packets in a matrix of D rows and L columns, taking their sequence number into account; to each row and each column of the matrix containing at least one lost packet, applying a function for reconstructing missing packets using the received packets and the correction packet corresponding to the row or to the column. The invention also concerns the devices implementing these methods.

  • Publication number: 20090285094
Abstract: The invention concerns a solution for detecting conditions of dearth and overflow of a client input buffer to a real time content distribution. Said detection is performed upstream of clients through a dynamic estimation of the fill factor of the input buffers of said clients. Thus, it is possible to predict the occurrence of dearth or overflow situations and to take actions such as inserting stored video sequences or storing queueing packets.
