    Abstract: A small family of novel genes referred to as the DAZ gene family, present in interval 6D and/or 6E of the distal portion of the long arm of the human Y chromosome and on human chromosome 3. Alteration of a DAZ gene present in interval 6D and/or 6E of the distal portion of the long arm of the human Y chromosome is associated with reduced sperm count. Methods of diagnosis and treatment utilizing a DAZ gene, and antibodies that bind to the protein encoded by said genes.
