Patent number: 11933040Abstract: The present invention provides methods and articles for achieving puncture-resistant waterproofing membranes and for waterproofing building and civil engineering surfaces without requiring the use of separate protection boards. Exemplary membranes and methods of the invention rely on relatively thin, flexible composite layers to provide impact resistance while yet facilitating seaming between adjacent installed membranes and minimizing formation of wrinkles, leakage channels, and “fish mouth” openings, particularly at substrate details or other surface irregularities.Type: GrantFiled: June 15, 2018Date of Patent: March 19, 2024Assignee: GCP Applied Technologies Inc.Inventors: Marysusan Couturier, Jyoti Seth

Publication number: 20240052212Abstract: A pressure-sensitive adhesive (PSA) composition and method of use across a wide operable temperature window. The PSA composition includes a triblock copolymer rubber with relatively low diblock content, an aliphatic tackifier, an aromatic tackifier, and an oil-based plasticizer. The combination of components results in the PSA having a phase-separated morphology, where the PSA includes two domains that do not mix with each other. This morphology’ results in superior performance of the PSA across a wide range of temperatures, such that separate adhesives for low temperatures and high temperatures are no longer required.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 14, 2021Publication date: February 15, 2024Inventors: Anthony Maiorana, Xia Cao, Ralph Fayad, Marysusan Couturier, Li Zhang

Patent number: 11536026Abstract: The present invention provides a panel sheathing for making wall and roof structures in which the panels (e.g., wood boards, oriented strand boards, plywood, etc.) are pre-coated at a factory, before installation at the building/construction site, using a polymeric barrier coating having specific water permeability, self-sealing properties with respect to penetrated metal fasteners (e.g., nails) in accordance with ASTM D7349 (modified using 1.5-5.0 inches water depth in hydrostatic head testing over sample of coated panel in which a steel nail is driven to within ? inches of being flush with the panel and conditioning the test specimen for 24 hours at 23° C. prior to hydrostatic loading), as well as anti-blocking properties whereby the coated panels can be transported in stacked configuration without sticking or disintegration of the polymeric barrier coating.Type: GrantFiled: August 14, 2018Date of Patent: December 27, 2022Inventors: Anandakumar Ranganathan, Robert A. Wiercinski, Xia Cao, Marysusan Couturier, Md Nasim Hyder, Jyoti Seth, Nicholas Pankewytch

Publication number: 20210162713Abstract: An integrated air barrier assembly is provided as an integral product in which a fastener-sealing layer is secured between opposed surfaces of a board and an anti-blocking facing layer. The assembly exhibits good fastener sealability, including for larger self-drilling screws. The anti-blocking facing layer maintains the fastener-sealing layer inward of the environment and prevents blocking or sticking of the assembly when stacked. In some embodiments, the anti-blocking facing layer can be a metal film or foil, which can reflect heat away from the fastener-sealing layer, thereby maintaining a lower temperature on the fastener-sealing layer. In some embodiments, the board can be an insulating layer or wood layer. The assembly can be readily installed in a single step during construction.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 6, 2018Publication date: June 3, 2021Inventors: Marysusan Couturier, Jyoti Seth, Damla Boyer

Patent number: 10487218Abstract: A fire retardant, vapor impermeable coating composition is disclosed which is useful for protecting gypsum, wood, polyurethane, polystyrene, and other construction materials and surfaces, such as components for buildings. The composition does not require halogenated compounds and is considered environmentally friendly. The composition is provided in the form of a liquid-applicable aqueous latex comprising at least one latex polymer and an expandable graphite, optionally a hydrophobic thickener, and optionally other fire retardants such as metal hydroxides, wherein the polymer is selected such that the composition, when coated onto a substrate and allowed to dry, has a vapor permeability not exceeding one perm (5.70×10?8 g/Pa·s·m2 when tested according to ASTM E96B-10 at an average dry film thickness of 40 mils).Type: GrantFiled: April 7, 2015Date of Patent: November 26, 2019Assignee: GCP Applied Technologies Inc.Inventor: Marysusan Couturier

Publication number: 20130284364Abstract: Adhesive composition in mat or sheet form for setting construction materials such as tiles. The adhesive composition comprises at least one pressure sensitive adhesive and a reactive adhesive dispersed therein, wherein said reactive adhesive forms a blend or a semi or fully interpenetrating network or a reinforcing phase throughout said pressure sensitive adhesive, said mat having a thickness defined between a first side and a second side opposite said first side, and at least one release layer removably secured to one of said first side or said second side. Embodiments include application of the adhesive by providing an adhesive mat having a back release liner and a top release liner opposite the back release liner, removing the back release liner, laying the mat on the substrate such as a floor, applying pressure to the mat to ensure good contact between the mat and the substrate, removing the top release liner, and positioning the tile onto the adhesive mat.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 21, 2011Publication date: October 31, 2013Inventors: Marysusan Couturier, Jyoti Seth, Robert A.
