  • Patent number: 4984552
Abstract: A fuel injection device for an automotive internal combustion engine is disclosed, which comprises two distinct acceleration state determining means, i.e., a rapid and a slow acceleration state judgement means, for determining the amount of the asynchronous augmentation of fuel. The rapid acceleration state judgement detects the rapid acceleration state by comparing with a first threshold level the increment of the throttle opening degree over each period of an A/D conversion timing signal; the slow acceleration judgement means, on the other hand, detects the slow acceleration state by comparing with a second threshold level the increment of, for example, the throttle opening degree signal over, for example, two successive periods of the same A/D conversion time signal. When the rapid acceleration state is detected, an asynchronous augmentation of fuel for the rapid acceleration is effected.

  • Patent number: 4982331
Abstract: A control apparatus for a fuel injector has a microcomputer which calculates a basic pulse width of pulses to be applied to a fuel injector. When the voltage of a battery which powers a fuel pump and the fuel temperature fall below levels which cause the discharge pressure of the fuel pump to drop below a prescribed pressure, the microcomputer corrects the basic pulse width by lengthening it to compensate for the drop in fuel pressure. Pulses having the corrected pulse width are applied to the fuel injector.

  • Patent number: 4967717
Abstract: A detecting device for detecting abnormality in an EGR system comprises an EGR valve disposed in an EGR passage to control a flow rate of recirculated exhaust gas, a first temperature sensor disposed in the EGR passage to detect the temperature of the same, a second temperature sensor disposed in the air-intake passage of an engine, an EGR abnormality determining zone discriminating means to discriminate a specified operational zone in an operable area for the engine in which recirculation of the exhaust gas is controlled by the EGR valve. Abnormality in the EGR system is detected on the basis of a value obtained by comparison of the output of the first and second temperature sensors in the specified operational zone.

  • Patent number: 4962742
Abstract: A fuel injection device for an automotive spark ignition internal combustion engine provided with a supercharger is disclosed, wherein the amount of fuel injected in synchrony with the crank angle signal is determined on the basis of the intake air pressure. The increment of the air pressure data over each fuel injection period is compared with a first threshold level to determine the first augmentation. The pressure data is averaged over each fuel injection period, and the increment of the averaged pressure data over a predetermined interval of time is compared with a second threshold level to determine the second augmentation. The fundamental amount is calculated on the basis of either the instantaneous or the averaged pressure data, in dependency on the value of the first augmentation amount.

  • Patent number: 4951647
Abstract: An engine control apparatus comprises a throttle sensor, a pressure sensor for detecting a pressure in the intake manifold of an engine as a value of the absolute pressure, an engine revolution speed detector, a zone detector for detecting the fact that a signal value indicating a degree of opening of a throttle valve and a signal value indicating an engine revolution speed fall in a predetermined atmospheric pressure detection zone and a processing unit to calculate a value of atmospheric pressure by adding a set value to a signal of pressure upon detecting said values being in the detection zone. A timer may be provided to detect the fact that the signal values of the degree of opening of the throttle valve and the engine revolution speed are continuously in the atmospheric pressure detection zone for a predetermined time.

  • Patent number: 4951634
Abstract: A fuel injector for a spark ignition internal combustion engine is disclosed, wherein the amount of injected fuel is increased by an extra amount when the engine is in a transient accelerating state. The air pressure within the air inlet passage to the engine is detected by an air pressure sensor, and the load condition is judged by comparing the detected pressure with a reference level. Further, the variation or increment of the detected pressure over each fuel injection period is calculated and compared with a high or a low threshold level selected in accordance with the load condition of the engine. Preferably, the high threshold level is selected when the high load condition continues over a predetermined length of time, the low threshold level being otherwise selected. The amount of transient extra increase is determined in accordance with the result of the comparison of the pressure variation with the selectd threshold level.

  • Patent number: 4938195

  • Patent number: 4903657
Abstract: An apparatus for controlling the operation of an engine based on the pressure in an intake manifold. If a change in the pressure in the intake manifold is equal to or less than a predetermined value during a predetermined period within the period from the time when a voltage source is turned on to the time when a starter is turned on, the pressure in the intake manifold is detected and stored. If the engine is not in the start mode, the rate of fuel supply is increased based on an atmospheric pressure detection value. Based on the comparison between the atmospheric pressure value and a predetermined value, a passage for bypassing a throttle valve is opened and closed to control the idling of the engine.

  • Patent number: 4620517
Abstract: An apparatus for controlling an engine speed through intermittent control of a driving time and a halt time for an engine-speed adjusting actuator (12) in accordance with the output signal of a difference detecting circuit (6) corresponding to the difference between the outputs of a desired speed computing circuit (5) and an actual speed computing circuit (4). The feature of the invention resides particularly in determining the actuator halt time in proportion to the desired quantity of control for the actuator (12) or the engine operation parameter without limiting the said time to any fixed length, hence eliminating overshoot of the engine speed in the control and ensuring satisfactory apparatus capabilities with a short halt time and enhanced response characteristic.

  • Patent number: 4577603
Abstract: An engine RPM control device has a load compensator responsive to the engine load status setting for adding a load compensation signal to the output from a control signal computing unit, thereby enabling an actuator to open or close a throttle valve. The engine RPM is controlled through a feedback loop. A load driver is actuated to drive the engine load a time interval after the engine load status setting has been detected by a load switch. Therefore, the engine load is energized or de-energized after the engine RPM has been changed to meet the engine load status setting. Any reduction or increase in the engine RPM due to the change of the engine load is thus held to a minimum.
