  • Patent number: 5444118
Abstract: A two-stage process for producing a copolymer, comprising emulsion polymerizing (a) a 2-80% by weight of a conjugated diene compound, (b) 0.1-10% by weight of an ethylenically unsaturated carboxylic acid, and (c) 10-97.9% by weight of an ethylenically unsaturated compound other than the components (a) and (b) in the presence of (d) and .alpha.-methylstyrene dimer, wherein in the first stage, 10-50% by weight of the total amount of the components (a), (b) and (c) are added and polymerized at 70.degree.-80.degree. C. for 2-6 hours after the addition of the monomer, and after said first stage, 50-90% by weight of the total amount of the components (a), (b) and (c) are continuously fed and polymerized in a second stage.

  • Patent number: 4746316
Abstract: A method for manufacturing a luminous tube for discharge lamp including sealing, in a closed container having a stream of a desired gas introduced therein, components of a luminous tube by means of the photo energy of a laser light such that the desired gas, at a predetermined pressure, is sealed within the luminous tube.

  • Patent number: 4429210
Abstract: A heating device comprises a laser oscillator which emits a laser beam, a reflector which guides the laser beam from the laser oscillator to an object a support pole for supporting the reflector to pivotally oscillate about an axis substantially perpendicular to an axis of the object, and a pair of electromagnets for oscillating the reflector between a maximum tilted position in one direction and a maximum tilted position in an opposite direction and for stopping the reflector at both maximum tilted positions for a predetermined period. The laser beam which is incident on the reflector reciprocally scans the object in the axial direction of the predetermined range thereof by the oscillation of the reflector.

  • Patent number: 4414460
Abstract: A method of sealing an aperture formed in a discharge tube using a laser beam.A tube having the aperture to be hermetically sealed is placed in a vessel having a window which transmits a laser beam. The aperture is covered with a blockade member. The blockade member is irradiated with the laser beam in order to melt the blockade member and seal the aperture.

  • Patent number: 4051382
Abstract: A gas reaction apparatus has an activation chamber, a heat exchanger and a reaction chamber. A gas is introduced into the activation chamber and activated there by electric discharge. The activated gas is then cooled by the heat exchanger in case a reaction to be effected in the reaction chamber is exothermic or heated by the exchanger in case a reaction to be effected in the reaction chamber is endothermic. The heat resulting from the reaction with the gas can therefore be effectively removed so that a desired reaction is rapidly conducted in the reaction chamber without being followed by a side reaction.
