  • Patent number: 4915140
Abstract: A woven slide fastener stringer is disclosed, which comprises a woven support tape and a row of continuous coupling elements woven into a longitudinal edge of the tape. The coupling elements are securely anchored in place by a minimum number of binding warp threads and a plurality of clamping warp threads which form a cross-sectionally triangular weave structure designed to ensure firm holding of the coupling elements on the tape.

  • Patent number: 4682635
Abstract: A method and an apparatus for manufacturing a woven slide fastener stringer wherein synthetic resin fastener elements in the form of a continuous spiral are formed at the same time that the fastener tape is woven. In the method, the monofilament for forming the fastener elements is advanced toward a hook on one side of warp bunches from the other side thereof, engaged on the hook at the advanced position and guide into a fell via the one side of the warp and is thereafter deformed into a loop shaped fastener element. The apparatus includes a carrier for advancing the monofilament across the warp bunches and a swinging arm swingably positioned at one side of the warp bunches. The swinging arm includes the hook for engaging the monofilament for forming fastener elements and is swingable between a first position wherein the hook is situated at one side of a fell and a second position wherein the hook is remote from the fell.

  • Patent number: 4678013
Abstract: Disclosed is a woven slide fastener including a row of fastener elements composed of a flat coil formed of a continuous monofilament, and a slide fastener tape having the row of fastener elements woven into a longitudinal side edge thereof. Each fastener element includes a coupling head and upper and lower leg portions joined thereto. Binding warp threads extend along the upper and lower sides of the fastener element row and are woven into the tape along with other warp threads and a weft thread to form a portion where the tape and fastener element row are mutually interwoven, thereby maintaining the perpendicularity of the leg portions with respect to the tape, the stability of the spacing between mutually adjacent ones of the fastener elements, and the smoothness with which the row of fastener elements is coupled with an opposing row of fastener elements.

  • Patent number: 4597418
Abstract: Disclosed is a woven slide fastener of the type in which fastener elements formed of a continuous monofilament in the shape of a coil are woven into a longitudinal side portion of a tape fabric at the same time that the tape fabric is woven. In order to improve element spacing stability and raise the bending and tensile strength, as well as the thrust-up strength, of a fastener chain, a weft thread at an element weave-in portion of the tape is so arranged as to alternately run over and under and intersect binding warp threads and coil-fastening warp threads.

  • Patent number: 4561474
Abstract: A woven slide fastener stringer includes an edge portion woven of foundation warp threads and a single foundation weft thread which is laid in a series of pairs of weft picks. A row of filamentary coupling elements is disposed against one side of the longitudinal edge portion with two pairs of picks provided for each coupling element, one pair at each side of the adjacent leg. A binding warp thread system has threads which engage the upper legs remotely from the edge portion and which extend downwardly to pass beneath one or two pairs of weft thread. By this arrangement, the coupling elements are stably secured in position.

  • Patent number: 4498503
Abstract: A method and apparatus for manufacturing a woven slide fastener stringer having a row of coupling elements woven integrally into a woven stringer tape as the latter is woven. An element-forming filamentary material is displaced away from warp threads of the stringer tape and is coiled by and around a hook which moves remotely from the warp threads without interference therewith. A woven slide fastener stringer produced by the method and apparatus has a row of coupling elements stably fixed in position to a stringer tape by a binding warp thread system having a pattern similar to a row of sewing stitches.

  • Patent number: 4227555
Abstract: A woven slide fastener stringer has a stringer tape including a weft thread woven in double picks with warp threads and having loops disposed along a longitudinal edge of the tape, a core thread extending through the weft loops, and a filamentary coupling element having turns each including a pair of limbs between which the core thread is disposed and connecting portions extending between adjacent two limbs. Each of the double picks has a portion extending around one of the connecting portions and between the one connecting portion and the core thread, and blending into adjacent two weft loops, thereby fastening the coupling element securely in position. Such a stringer is manufactured using a pair of monofilament and weft carriers insertable into and withdrawable out of warp sheds, a mandrel vertically shiftable into various shed positions, and in some embodiments means operatively coupled with the carriers for vertically displacing the threads and monofilament.

  • Patent number: 4215729
Abstract: A woven fastener stringer has a row of successively interconnected coupling loops having a head, an upper leg, a lower leg and a heel. The row of loops is secured to a longitudinal edge of a stringer tape by a first group of warp threads consisting of an exterior thread extending over the upper legs and an interior thread extending under the upper legs and a second group of warp threads consisting of an exterior thread extending under the lower legs and an interior thread extending over the lower legs. Both first and second groups of threads are interwoven with the portions of a continuous foundation weft thread which lie in double picks in the region of a tunnel.

  • Patent number: 4184518
Abstract: An apparatus for manufacturing a slide fastener stringer having a woven coiled fastener element includes a coiling rotor assembly for winding a monofilament orbitally around a mandrel extending substantially warpwise so as to shape the monofilament into a helical coil which, as the fastener element, is interlaced with weft threads as they are woven with warp threads to produce the slide fastener stringer. The rotor assembly comprises a first and a second wheel rotatable respectively on a first and a second floating shaft interconnected by a connecting rod out of coaxial alignment with each other, the first shaft being located adjacent to the warp threads and supporting the mandrel. The wheels have means for guiding the monofilament to turn in an orbital motion during revolution of the wheels.
