  • Patent number: 8947335
Abstract: In method of driving a bistable nematic dot-matrix liquid crystal display panel, a first pulse voltage is applied to nematic liquid crystal molecules to raise the nematic liquid crystal molecules in the longitudinal direction. After application of the first pulse voltage, a second pulse voltage is applied to the nematic liquid crystal molecules for selecting one of two stable orientation states of the nematic liquid crystal molecules. Immediately after the application of the second pulse voltage, an AC pulse waveform of a voltage lower than a last pulse of the second pulse voltage is applied to thereby remove residual electric charges remaining in the bistable nematic dot-matrix liquid crystal display panel.

  • Publication number: 20130169898
Abstract: In a method of driving a bistable nematic dot-matrix liquid crystal display panel, from the facts that a write waveform contains a DC component and that liquid crystal molecules have not yet reached a stable state of anchoring force immediately after the end of writing but gradually become the stable state, it is considered that charges still remain in liquid crystal even at the time point when a COM electrode and a SEG electrode have become GND. Although the residual charges resulting from single writing cause no problem because its period is short, the residual charges after writing break down the bistable liquid crystal display panel as the number of rewriting increases. Immediately after a waveform for rewriting the bistable liquid crystal display panel was applied, an AC waveform of a voltage lower than the last pulse of a drive waveform was applied. Further, the voltage was allowed to gradually approach 0 V.

  • Publication number: 20120032934
Abstract: Voltage consumption during flashing of a frame is suppressed. Under a state in which an image is written and held, when a waveform of low voltage at low frequency is applied to the whole surface of a bistable liquid crystal display panel, the liquid crystal molecules are inclined to some extent, if not to the state vertical to a substrate, and the frame displays gray close to white. After that, when the voltage application is stopped, the image displayed before the application appears because the orientation state of the bistable liquid crystal display panel is not broken. By utilizing this phenomenon, a state of applying the waveform of low voltage at low frequency and a non-application state are repeated at a given time interval, and hence the frame can be flashed with low power consumption.

  • Publication number: 20120013586
Abstract: In a method of driving a dot matrix display panel using bistable nematic liquid crystal, a “blur” due to a parasitic signal is prevented from being caused. In a method of driving a dot matrix display panel using bistable nematic liquid crystal which may select white/black only by positive polarity driving or negative polarity driving, a direct current component due to a parasitic signal (40) caused at the time of non-selection is canceled by a cancel pulse (41) having a pulse width that is the same as that of the parasitic signal (40) and a polarity that is opposite to that of the parasitic signal (40). The cancel pulse (41) is generated by adding an additive pulse (35) to a common selection signal (25) and by adding an additive pulse (36) to a common non-selection signal (26).

  • Publication number: 20110181580
Abstract: A driving device includes a bistable liquid crystal display panel having a common line and a segment line, a common driving section for driving the common line, a segment driving section for driving the segment line, a power source circuit for generating a driving potential, and a control section for controlling the common driving section, the segment driving section, and the power source circuit. In a case of low temperature, a mode for performing driving control with higher voltage efficiency to set a maximum voltage amplitude is selected. In a case of high temperature, a driving mode that does not use the maximum voltage amplitude is selected. Therefore, a driving means suitable for a bistable nematic dot matrix liquid crystal display is provided.

  • Publication number: 20070146269
Abstract: Provided are an image display device and an image display method capable of reducing the number of signal lines connected between a driver IC and a liquid crystal display portion and of displaying a preferable image. A liquid crystal display portion is divided into 16 division groups in a scanning direction. In order to scan the liquid crystal display portion, a common scanning signal line which is a scanning signal output line of a scanning signal line driver circuit is connected with a selective scanning signal line of each of the 16 division groups during switching for each of the groups. The common scanning signal line is commonly used among the plurality of selective scanning signal lines, so the number of wirings to be connected in the driver IC can be reduced.

  • Patent number: 6980193
Abstract: There is provided a simple matrix liquid crystal panel in which the number of changes in waveform on a column electrode is suppressed without degrading a display quality even when the number of gray scales is increased, and a consumption power can be reduced. Pulse width modulation is performed with a sum total of a plurality of pulses selected in a plurality of frames, and the number of changes in column electrode for displaying a half tone pixel data on a pixel is set as 1 during the plurality of frames. Further, an occurrence order of dividing frames in an odd row is made different from that in an even row and interlaced scanning is conducted. Thus, the consumption power is greatly reduced as compared with the case of conventional pulse width modulation.
