  • Publication number: 20100080625
Abstract: In an image forming apparatus, a moving member is provided with a first engagement member. A lever is provided with a second engagement member to engage and disengage the first engagement member provided in the moving member. The lever moves between a predetermined first position and a second position different from the first position to move the moving member in such a manner that when the lever is at the first position, a transfer member reaches a contact position at which the transfer member is pressed against an image carrier via a belt, and when the lever is at the second position, the transfer member reaches a separation position at which the transfer member separates from the image carrier.

  • Patent number: 7657196
Abstract: An optical sensor detects at least one of a toner image and a toner adhesion amount per unit area based on a change of an optical characteristic on a surface of an endless belt member. A control unit performs a predetermined process based on a detection result obtained by the optical sensor. A sensor moving unit moves the optical sensor between a first position in opposite to a belt supporting area in which the endless belt member is supported by a supporting roller and a second position that is different from the first position. The detection result is obtained by the optical sensor when the optical sensor is placed at the first position by the sensor moving unit.

Abstract: A cleaning apparatus is for removing a toner from a surface of an endless belt. The cleaning apparatus includes a blade, a blade holding structure, and an abutment maintaining structure. The blade abuts on the endless belt that is supported on a tension roller. The blade holding structure holds the blade with its rotation restricted, in a movable manner in the direction of motion adjustment to adjust tension on the endless belt, and causes the blade to abut on a winding area of the endless belt with respect to the tension roller. The abutment maintaining structure allows the blade to follow up movement of the tension roller to thereby maintain abutment of the blade on the endless belt.
