    Abstract: In an electronic watch having an oscillator for producing a time base signal and stepping motor, drive pulses are produced for normally driving the motor under normal load conditions. The rotation and non-rotation of the motor in response to the last drive pulse is detected in response to a detecting pulse, and if non-rotation has been detected, a predetermined plurality of correction pulses are applied to the motor for driving same, the correction pulses being sufficient to drive the motor under a high torque loading. In this way, power consumption is decreased since a high power driving is saved only for high torque loading conditions.

    Abstract: An electronic timepiece having a stepping motor and a drive circuit responsive to a control signal for applying electrical drive pulses having polarities determined by the control signal for rotating the rotor of the stepping motor. The control circuit normally operates in a mode for applying a control signal to the drive circuit effective to control the drive circuit to apply alternate polarity electrical drive pulses to rotate the stepping motor rotor in a normal direction. Resetting circuitry is operable for correcting the time kept by the timepiece. A detecting circuit detects whether the stepping motor rotor is in a position to be rotated by a forthcoming drive pulse after resetting. If the stepping motor rotor is not in a position for rotation a detection circuit signal is applied to the control circuit so that the control signal controls the drive circuit to apply an electrical pulse effective to rotate the stepping motor rotor after resetting.

    Abstract: An electronic timepiece including a dividing circuit for developing different output pulse signals having different respective pulse repetition rates, a stepping motor and a drive circuit responsive to control signals for driving the stepping motor at a normal rate and for applying a correction pulse to the stepping motor according to the control signals. A pulse combining circuit combines the different output pulse signals from the dividing circuit for generating control signals and for applying the control signals to the drive circuit. The pulse combining circuit normally generates a control signal effective to drive the stepping motor at a normal rate, and the pulse combining circuit is responsive to a correction signal to control the drive circuit to apply a corrective pulse to the stepping motor. A detection circuit detects rotation and non-rotation of the stepping motor rotor and generates a detection voltage signal indicative of the state of rotation of the rotor.

    Abstract: An electronic timepiece including a stepping motor and a time-indicating hand moved in a stepwise manner by the stepping motor for indicating time. During normal operation the time-indicating hand moves at a normal periodic rate. When operating conditions such as a low battery cause the stepping motor to not rotate, correcting pulses are applied to the stepping motor to supply additional energy to it to cause it to rotate. Additionally, the correcting pulses cause the rotor, and the time-indicating hand to rotate at a rate different from the normal periodic rate to alert the timepiece user that some condition exists tending to cause non-rotation of the stepping motor.

    Abstract: An electronic timepiece includes a stepping motor having a coil and a rotor. Circuitry is provided for generating and applying alternating pulses to the motor coil to effect forward stepwise rotation of the motor rotor in a forward direction and for generating and applying alternating pulses to the motor coil to effect reverse stepwise rotation of the motor rotor in a reverse direction. The reverse rotation is achieved by sets of three alternating pulses with the first pulse of each set effecting incremental angular movement of the motor rotor in the forward direction followed by the second and third pulses which effect greater icremental angular movement of the motor rotor in the reverse direction to thereby obtain for each pulse set a net angular movement of the motor rotor in the reverse direction.

    Abstract: In an electronic watch a non-operation detecting circuit detects the non-operative condition of the stepping motor of the watch and produces a non-operation signal each time the stepping motor fails to operate in response to the standard pulse which drives the same. A counter counts the number of non-operation signals and stores the count for later use. A rotation detecting circuit detects the resumption of operation of the stepping motor in response to the standard pulse from the non-operative condition and a quick feed control circuit quickly advances the stepping motor in response to an input from the rotation detection circuit by thereafter supplying, instead of the standard pulses, the quick feed pulses to the drive circuit for the motor equal in number to the number of the non-operation signals counted in the counter.

    Abstract: In an electronic timepiece having a stepping motor, a drive pulse is produced for normally driving the motor, a detecting pulse is generated for detecting whether the motor has rotated in response to the last drive pulse and a correction pulse is produced for driving the motor when non-rotation has been detected. A current limiting resistor is disposed in series with the motor for limiting the current thereto and a switching transistor is connected across the current limiting resistor to short circuit same to effect an increase in the current to the motor. During the detecting pulse, the voltage across the current limiting resistor is compared to a predetermined value.

    Abstract: An electronic timepiece reduces power consumption by normally driving the stepping motor with a short pulse and driving the motor with a wide pulse under heavy load conditions by sensing the rotor position. A detection circuit senses the voltage drop across a detection element in series with the motor coil for driving a first detection pulse and senses again for driving a second detection pulse. If the second voltage drop is larger, then the rotor is not rotating whereupon the wide pulse is used to drive the motor.

    Abstract: An electronic watch comprising a rotor magnetically connected to more than two poles, a stator composed of material of high magnetic transmission factor magnetically engaging with the rotor, means composed of coil magnetically connected to the stator and for positioning the rotor in advance in order to determine a rotating direction of the rotor and means a step motor driven by an alternating pulses, wherein a position of the rotor is brought back to a former magnetically horizontal position from an original position thereof by applying a reverse polarity pulse to the coil just before a normal pulse, and then the rotor is rotated in reverse by the normal pulse whereby a needle may be reversed.
