  • Patent number: 5942880
Abstract: A compensation control device for a power system includes a switched capacitor connected in series with a transmission line, a voltage applying control connected in series with the transmission line, and a ganged control for controlling on/off operation of the switched capacitor and a linearizing voltage generated by the voltage applying control. The control ensures that a sum voltage of a stepped voltage generated across the switched capacitor and the linearizing voltage produced by the voltage applying control and that is applied to the transmission line is continuous. The control device realizes controllability of the total impedance of the transmission line and reduces the capacitance of the parts employed in the ganged control.

  • Patent number: 5886888
Abstract: A voltage source type power converting apparatus having voltage source type power converter units and phase-shifting transformers. The transformers have either a common multiple-phase primary winding or a group of parallel connected multiple-phase primary windings, either of which being connected in parallel or series to a multiple-phase AC system. The transformer further include a group of multiple-phase secondary windings with phase differences with respect to each other and which are connected to voltage source type power converter units. The voltage source type power converter units are operated with the phase differences. Accordingly, the construction of the multiplexing phase-shifting transformer is simple, and fundamental electric variables can be controlled by a simple phase controlling operation. In addition, a higher harmonic defect of the AC system can be reduced, and the DC voltage can be easily raised.

  • Patent number: 5646511
Abstract: A power system compensator apparatus comprising a power converter unit that works in series with the transmission of a power system and switching control means for controlling the link voltage (V.sub.LINK) of the non-power system side. The switching control means controls the phase of, at least, the fundamental frequency of the power system. The power converter unit contains a static power converter transformer with phase differences taking place the secondary windings of the power converter unit. The static power converter unit is operated in non-PWM or fixed pulse width ratio. Switching rate is minimized. Loss is lowered while economy of operation is improved. Since the voltage that works in series with the power transmission line is controlled, direct compensation of system reactance voltage and direct control of line current are performed. Improved performance thus results.

  • Patent number: 4321518
Abstract: A system for driving an inductor type synchronous motor for minute control thereof which includes an inductor type synchronous motor having a circuit for driving m phases of driving windings and first magnetic teeth. A second group of magnetic teeth is provided facing the first group of magnetic teeth. Apparatus is provided for feeding electric current from a DC power source to the driving windings of the respective phases. • Patent number: 4310791
Abstract: A variable frequency power supply device supplies an AC power to a squirrel-cage motor through an AC parameter control. The control receives a command active current resulting from a command torque and a command exciting current to generate a resultant current and its phase. The command torque is produced from the actual and command motor speeds and the exciting current is caused from the actual motor speed. The control also receives a command frequency determined by the actual motor frequency and a command slip frequency also resulting from the command torque. The control controls the firing phases of thyristors in the power supply device in response to the command current, phase and frequency. The control may generate a voltage for supplying the active current and an exciting voltage to similarly control the firing phases of the thyristors. In the latter case, the exciting voltage may be added with its differential to compensate for a rapid change in active current.

  • Patent number: 4298838
Abstract: A transformer device comprises a saturable magnetic core having control and controlled windings, the saturable magnetic core being controlled in a feedback mode through switch means such as transistor switch means. The transformer device may comprise two magnetic cores and changes in magnetic resistance between the two magnetic cores are differentially fed back and amplified to cause an oscillative switch means to be turned on and off. A current to be detected flows in the control winding and detected by the controlled winding. The detected output corresponds to the polarity and the absolute value of the current supplied to the control winding. The transformer device not only can detect or measure the primary current but can identify the polarity thereof, differing from prior art dc current or potential transformers. The transformer device of the invention operates substantially free of slot-ripple inherent in the prior art transformer.
